Wow a country that actually takes notice of world opinion. Now if only Japan wouldnt be so recalcitrant. I guess it just goes to show the level of South Korean maturity compared to that of Japan hey!

I wonder if the Koreans were serious all along, or just wanted an easy way to distinguish themselves from and throw some egg on the faces of the Japanese govt :)

Even if the Koreans were serious, I wouldn't be against a controlled culling of whales if their numbers were shown to be detrimental to fisheries. This would go for Japan too, if they had out of control numbers of whales hurting their markets. However, when a country goes out of its way to decimate large numbers of its local stocks and then ventures out to ridiculous lengths for dubious cultural reasons- then the line has to be drawn.

Cletus, this is a area of agreement, Japan needs to stop hunting whales. It seems that Korea is taking the high road. Before we butcher the ROK, lets see what happens next.

A crafty move by Korea: if they can show that non-lethal methods can be used Japan will be forced to explain why they use lethal methods to conduct their "research". Of course, the Japanese whalers will be unable to do this and will once again be exposed to the world as the dissembling fools they are.

If Korea can do it why can't Japan?

Thomas, am not sure my friend. Bravo Zulu to the Republic of Korea and thumbs down to the government of Japan.
