Oh my.

And wearing nothing but their helmets and boots?

I need to understand the entire story. I'm off a-Googling to get the whole picture.

I'm back.

Oh my.

Spain sure must have a lot of fires to put out, judging from these guys' , er, physical fitness. Not a sedentary lifestyler among the lot of them.

But seriously now, cuts in areas of basic public safety are never a good idea- these people save lives and homes, and they need more equipment and longer hoses than those which god gave them.

They certainly do!

I hope these austerity measures won't end up costing lives.

Well this may look funny, but Spain, etc..are really getting whacked by so many economic problems, do hope they can get their economy back on their feet and that these guys get some clothes??

Yeah, the only way they can do this is by following Iceland's example. Notice how Iceland is no longer in the news; some people don't want us to know about the option they followed.

Maria,

I agree with you. Cuts to people's basic safety structure is, indeed, never a good idea. It boils down to the politicians gambling that they will be out of office before the inevitable disaster occurs. And when it comes back to bite, it bites HARD. Think Katrina and a FEMA head who knew more about show horses than emergency management.

If the Spaniards ever get out of this financial mess, maybe they'll think twice before voting socialists into power again.

Ciao, "some people" seems to include you as you are keeping the option you think Iceland followed a secret. Why so coy? Just tell us what you think they did and why we should know about it.
