A spokesman said the State Department issued similar orders ahead of presumed Republican nominee John McCain’s similar overseas tour four months ago
I can't seem to find an article about that in Japan Today's archives. Must not have been newsworthy (profitable) since readers wouldn't have been able to link in messages about the evil Bush White House. Let's see what the reaction will be in this thread.
officially treating the candidates differently"
between this news and the one about McCain not getting his article in; I am really getting sick of this political bull.
Both Obama and McCain are elected officials and should be treated as such but should not be allowed to use any embassy for political campaigns. In fact, neither one has any reason to visit any embassy unless there on "official" business and campaigns should not count.
I think Condi would be better telling Embassy workers to look up the definition of work anyways.
I haven't been able to find any news of McCain doing overseas work either....
SuperLib: You trying to spin a fact to say, "No records of McCain actually going overseas. Well, gosh darnsit, let's see how much people fuss about it against McCain on here!" will actually make anything less factual.
If similar orders were issued, good. But it's funny how you opened a can of worms about McCain's 'non-travel' news appearing all over (or his travel news appearing nowhere). It's like a junior highschool debating technique that backfired badly (especially with the, 'let's see what the reaction will be' part... hahaha. Lamest attempt to say 'I told you so!' to what is obviously going to be criticism to your remark).
Oh, and by the way, no one has pointed out any connection to an evil Bush regime... except you (Doh! 'You told me I was going to say that!' hahahahahahaha!!!).
additionally, every time I hit up the embassy, I am either told they are off because they have both Japanese and American holidays off, off for the super bowl, off an event. Just to get my daughter's passport took a long time and nasty attitudes
Why should either McCain or Obama expect to get better treatment than what my daughter and I received?
No, Embassy people, stay uniformed. Treat all like crap!
Skip,
I think sometimes you're a little hard on govt. workers but honestly, your criticism of the U.S. Embassy workers in Tokyo was no where near enough. You were too kind.

I went to Google and did a search and I can't find any mention of it when candidate McCain traveled overseas.
Whether it be Columbia or Iraq.
Don't tell me that Condi is taking sides and officially treating the candidates differently? < :-)

Since there's not a person alive, not even Obama's advisers, who believe this, it's best just not to say anything.
