Launch is up and away without a hitch. Well done guys. Now I just hope we can get our act together and reignite the interest in the space program again. Leave the low orbit stuff to commercial interests start looking at mars and asteroids.

An end of an era. I wish a safe return for all aboard the last shuttle. It reminds me of the last Apollo nearly 40 years ago.
Any guesses on whose flag will be the next on another world? And when? The way NASA's budget is being slashed, I wouldn't count on it being USA's.

Manned exploration much beyond the moon - and certainly Mars - is going to have to be a joint venture simply because of the costs involved. I don't see anybody with both the budget and the knowledge to get the job done.

I grew up with the space shuttle program. I solute to all dedicated engineers and crew members.

I hope they mothball those shuttles well. Never know when we will need to send people into space again. Or does the U.S. have some other method I don't know about?

What a fantastic expression of will, desire and adventure. Well done the Space Shuttle. Bring on the Moon again and then Mars.
