Its about friggen time! Why would you try to hold on to people who want to leave anyway? Its like a dude with a wife who wants to leave him, but he locks her in a room, telling himself she will love him again eventually! I hope there is secession and peace. The world could use the example.

I believe it when I see it. An islamist government allowing a non-muslim part of the country to seced would be a very rare event indeed. Lets see what he has cooked up.

How many sitting presidents are wanted on allegations of genocide and other arocities?

And if southern Sudan secedes, they won't have access to the Red Sea. Are they sure they want to do this?

    What a very strange story...

I'm amazed at how little media attention this "true genocide" gets...

Ah Africa. The Christian south Sudan wants to secede from the Muslim north Sudan. The ex-president of Christian south Ivory Coast does not want to cede the election to the new president from the Muslim north Ivory Coast, despite the international community threatening to use force.

Everyone wants to hold on to power. As they say in Africa: if you're president, you've got everything; if you're not, you've got nothing.

manfromamerica, that strange story was enacted during the U.S. civil war and many others around the globe. In fact the U.S. War of Independence was too, only the U.S. was on the other side of that one. Between those two wars lies a great hypocrisy.

Sarge, that is a very typical male attitude. Thanks for it as it illustrates exactly what I am talking about. The typical male does not tell himself "Well, if I am not wanted I am not wanted. Everyone should be free to be to choose." What he does is say "If I lose one single luxury I will rain hellfire down on everyone!"
