Let's not forget that Pakistan is close to Afghanistan, which is where US forces are hunting Osama Bun Laden, who should have been caught by now if the US hadn't gone into Iraq.

SupeLib, there's no guarantee Binny would have been caught even if Iraq hadn't been liberated.

Bin Laden is fiction a fairy tale. This is about revenge killing over Red Mosque assault by Pakistani Commandos in which more than 450 people were killed. Militants by now have killed more than 450 military/police personnel and it will not stop until Mush remains the President.

Right Sarge, go on and give the defeated story, "there's no guarantee Binny would have been caught even if Iraq hadn't been liberated."

SuperLib makes a damn good point. If we'd have stayed in Afghanistan and done the job we went to do, the chances that we would have gotten him would have been a damn sight greater. There would be no excuses.

But george bush did attack Iraq, a war of choice.

But to this story. This was a hell of a bombing.

My concern is that the Taliban or Al-Quaeda is going to get a Pakistani nuke. With their resurgence, the Taliban and Al-Quaeda have been taking control of more villages. < :-)

It's a damn good point SuperLib, but not the topic.

But I'm truly concerned that Pakistan is going to lose it all to the Taliban if they don't stand up and stop them now.

Those little war parties they sent out last week do absolutely nothing. Wasting our $10Billion. < :-)

Pakistan won't fall to the Taliban, but it's going to be bloody. They tried the military approach but that hasn't worked well. Instead they tried diplomacy and peace deals with the Taliban, which the Taliban signed to get the troops to leave, then threw away the agreements and started killing again freely. My guess is that Pakistan will go back to the military option again since they lost quite a bit of ground with the diplomacy route. And it's not like the Taliban are going to win an election in Pakistan anytime soon.

I guess we in the infidel West really need to ask

why do they hate themselves so much?

  • WilliB at 12:03 PM JST - 7th July

Pakistan will fall for the taliban, it is only a question of time. SuperLib is right that it will be bloody, but it will happen.

For the simple reason it is in the internal logic of events. An islamic democracy is a contradiction in terms. Any country that tries to be democratic (i.e. let the people make laws) and at the same time allows islam to be preached and practised (i.e. gods law) must eventually fail, because islam requires Sharia eventually.

The Taliban don't enjoy the support of the people, and they don't have the numbers for a military takeover. It's basically going to be thousands people people thrown into a very bloody grinder for years and years. And years. And years.

  • WilliB at 11:12 PM JST - 7th July

SuperLib: Dream on about "the people". The Taliban enjoy the support of fundamentalist muslims, and the more mosques and madarassas are built in Pakistan, the more fundamentalist muslims there are. And no, there is no "military takeover", but a steady, open ended, and growing terrorism, with steady retreat of the Pakistani military and establishment of Shariah law. Shariah rules in North Waziristan and the Swat valley now. Slice by slice it is growing, and slice by slice Pakistani secular control is decreasing. Try to see the big picture for a change.

Every day the Talibam getb stronger. The Pakistani army goes out for photo and media hype:

Pakistani Army crushed Taliban without firing a single shot.

Please, they are doing nothing with our $10Billion dollars but building up their nuclear arsenal. While the world is bitching and crying about Iran. < :-)

  • WilliB at 03:52 PM JST - 8th July

" Please, they are doing nothing with our $10Billion dollars "

Giving military aid to Pakistan is just as insane as standing by and allowing Iran to get nuclear bombs.

The whole Western world completely ignores what we are up against. It is like fighting the Cold War while pretending that communism is an ideology of peace.
