If he had been a US service wo/man who had infiltrated an enemy occupying base, the word used would be "hero". Parades, medals and flag draped casket. That's what he was to the Afghanis. Hard to take, isn't it? Go home!

Obama acknowledged that the spy agency has been tested “as never before” since the attacks of Sept 11, 2001.

    and failed both times.

More tragic consequences of Americans' inhernent naivety and tendency toward wishful thinking. This scenario will be doubtless repeated many more times before the US pulls out of Afghanistan.

Actually that is not who he is to the Afghanis considering the afghanis haven't been doing that and also consider the fact that polls have shown that the afghan public support for the taliban is in the single digits.

No way to win. Let's exit asap. Let the Peace Corp help the Afganis and oh, what about that oil?

    oh, what about that oil?

There is no proven reserves of "oil" in Afghanistan --however, the Chinese are duly noting all their mineral reserves.

The only "reserves" Afghanistan possesses is "trouble," which it has in great abundance. And history has proved that the cost of extraction is not worth the effort.

The glass industry could do well there. Lots of sand.

Maybe they can learn something from the Israeli border crossings and how to isolate people in secure cubicles while they are checked for bombs.

Also, don't get fooled by the uniforms. Lesson One for fighting throughout the Middle East.

Maybe so, but not if he was a suicide bomber. We don't infiltrate to kill ourselves taking others with us; we infiltrate to gather intelligence. Then we bomb later. We don't get all those virgins in heaven later on.

"That's what he was to the Afghanis [Afghans]."

    Not all Afghans.

Nope, not at all. This was an Afghani armee member, the very type of person that is supposed to be on "our" side.

This was not failure to adhere to the rules, this was a demonstration of how flawed the Wester understanding of the situation is.
