These pirates captured a Thai trawler and used it as a base to launch smaller pirate ships, firing continuously at the Indian cruiser. Why can't any article simply state this off the bat, rather than the sensationalist "Wasn't a pirate ship" and "Thai trawler attacked" headlines. Instead they use terms like "was actually a Thai trawler" and "mistakenly" and "not a pirate ship". This isn't journalism, it's a massive spam campaign of the internet.

bdiego: I think part of the reason is because of the sensationalist "Indian Navy Sinks Pirate Mothership" articles which swept the world and which the Indians proudly boasted about a week or so ago. Even on this board, with myself included, people pretty quickly jumped the gun and began patting the backs of the Indian boat. Now it seems they want this to be kept on the down low. I'm not sure there's 'nothing' they could have done differently.

India will be currying favour with Thailand now, but the lost fishermen will just be passed off as collateral damage.

It is war! The ship was being used as a base for enemy operations. It is sad the fisherman lost their lives but the good of stopping thugs outweighs the lost. If it would of remained in enemy hands, who know how many more innocents would have been lost. The India Navy defended themselves from hostile attack. I still give them a "well done". I think the other navies of the world would just sit by and watch them conduct pirate operations citing "we can not interfere".

wats war mate? most peoples say we can not interfere, because it is hard to say who's waters they are....so maybe india is like this; look what we did! now give us a token, give us these waters to control? doesnt seem as everybody agrees to that.... But these water issues arent going away.

SO India really gets attacked and what happens? SO many people said India has brass cobblers and the US and other navies don't. However the rational and I dare say informed said the piracy scourge is a bigger issue than meets the eye. Of course - bdiego!!! - the pirates would shoot at an approaching vessel. That's what they do! Ohhh but not for the Indian navy. That's not part of the piracy scenario, no sir. Shoot at the great ruler of the 7 seas? Now what? I hear some brass medals jingling back to the quarter master.

The article clearly states it was captured mere hours before. Its a little quick to be calling it a "mother ship". Its more like a recently captured vessel.
Anyway, I hope the "blow them out of the water" advocates understand that when the bullets fly, innocent people die, 15 in this case, and one lucky he did not die in his dingy. Not to say that the Indians were not justified if they were fired on first, but just saying this is why you don't run in with guns blazing just recover ships and cargo. The lives of the captured crew are far more important.
