What about the 60% of her decisions being overturned by the Supreme Court? What is her promise about that? That she won't overturn her previous decisions?

What about the 60% of her decisions being overturned by the Supreme Court?

Funny to see conservatives like WhiteHawk resort to Limbaugh-like buffoonery. Par for the course.

Sotomayor figured in the majority of 232 cases as an appellate judge. Of those 232 cases, 3 were overturned by the Supreme Court -- a reversal rate of 1.3 percent. Of course, the baffoons never mention the fact that of 232 decisions, only 5 were considered worthy of review by the Supreme Court, and three of those five were reversed -- which is where the baffoons draw their very laughable 60% figure.

Actually the reversal rate by the Supreme Court for the cases it does review is usually higher than 60% by appellate court district. So Sotomayor's district actually fared better than many others.

I'm sorry yabits, I should have clarified that I was referring to the decisions that were appealed before the Supreme Court, and not every judicial decision she ever made. The resulting misunderstanding is to be expected, especially if you want to see it.

    Better luck next time.

And so you admit that only 5 of the 232 decisions in which Sotomayor sided with the majority were deemed worthy of review by the Supreme Court. You preferred to throw out the 60% figure because it made Sotomayor sound like she wasn't a good judge.

Especially since the average reversal rate for other appellate districts hovers near 70%.

This is the typical kind of dishonest buffoonery which conservatives are noted for.

No, I admit that I should have clarified my 7:51 comment so as to avoid misinterpretation (accidental or intentional) by anyone reading it.

The thought actually occured to me as I was typing the original comment that I should be more spefic, but I thought "Nah, anybody familiar with the controversies surrounding Sotomayor will know what I'm referring to." Silly me, I should have remembered that there are always those who will try to twist anything said by someone who doesn't agree with them. In the future, I will try to leave you less room to spin and twist my posts.

This is the typical kind of dishonest buffoonery which conservatives are noted for.

You should check to see if any of your local movie theaters need a projectionist.

    TheQuestion

Personally I like Sotomayor for judge, what I'm still trying to figure out is why the left likes her so much and the right dislikes her. She has ruled in favor of a Bush policy prohibiting the government from giving money to nongovernment organizations that promoted abortions outside the U.S, she has ruled in favor of second amendment rights, and fourth amendment rights. I am a little shaky about some of her rulings against allowing police to strip search suspects in certain cases, but other than that she seems extraordinarily well qualified.

Just as long as she doesn't keep peddling that 'wise Latina' nonsense. I'm from a Cuban family and my cousins don't seem any wiser than any other women (or men for that matter) their age...just don't tell them I said so.

I'm not familiar with her rulings in such cases. Would you mind explaining?

Also, I'm not totally against her and I know we're not going to get anyone as far to the right as me from this administration, but I would like to see someone who's a bit less of a lightning rod with their statements.

    Whitehawk,

the 60 number you posted is the number of votes that the Democrats have in the Senate making her confirmation 100% assured.

I hope these numbers clear this up for you.

It is not wise to repeat the liar limbaugh as he is almost always wrong on fact. That is why debating with republicants is so easy.

It's taken a long time, but we will finally get our first racist Supreme Court Justice. I feel so honored.

zurcronium, you've spping and twisting even harder than yabits. It's entertaining, but less even accurate than Al Franken.

It's true though, the Democrats are guaranteed to have 60 votes. So much for all that bipartisanship they promised.

N.G. and S.G., as parents and next friends of S.C., a minor child, et al., Plaintiffs-Appellants, v. State of CONNECTICUT, et al., Defendants-Appellees. having to do with strip searches in a juvinile detention facility. Sotomayor wanted to increase the ammount of evidence needed before conducting a strip search, I personally believe that detention staff should be allowed to do their jobs.

So much for all that bipartisanship they promised.

That was before they came to the flawed realization that might makes right. Many have made this mistake in the past but nobody seems to learn from it.

The republicants are laying down on this nomination cause they know they are just potted plants now to the whole process. All they can do is anger the latino community which hates them already due to the immigration racism from last year.

The republicant senators on the judiciary committee, all white, all old, bible thumpers, mostly southern, all out of touch with reality. Many of them were in on the Ensign sex fling from the start, like Coburn.

    TheQuestion, thanks for the info.

ILLEGAL immigration. Why do you Leftists always leave out the word "illegal"? Oh yeah, because the whole truth doesn't fit your agenda.

And guess what? Illegal aliens come here from all over the world, not just where people have different skin tones. But that doesn't fit your agenda either, so you leave that out too.

I really wish neither party would part that "Hispanic" thing in this mix. What I know of her, myself and lot of other non-stuck up Hispanics, are too happy about her and that is mainly we don't know enough about her. Repubs are stupid for not going after her if they feel that bad about her only because they are afraid of losing our votes. Many of us are equally against illegal immigration and are pretty pissed that a great many of Hispanic. Equally, I don't know why the dems think they are doing something for us. What do they think, we are stupid? What is this? "Let's give the dog a few bones"? Guess what dems, you're still for the most part nothing more than a bunch of overly rich AND weak Anglos (I'd use a more selective word, but that would make me appear as a White hater). Repubs, you have really lost my respect! Weak, weak weak. Typical Anglos!

Sotomeyer is answering her questions very tactfully and completely. I know that her chance of making it through as the next Justice are pretty good, she's still a smart cookie.

Obama picked a good one. Besides the democrats having the numbers, she's got the background and experience to be the next Justice. < :-)

Does anyone else find it weird that a judge has to pledge impartial justice? One would hope that at this level that would be a given...
