"Marcelo Kohen, a professor of international law at the Graduate Institute in Geneva, said people who had lived all their life in Switzerland, married Swiss citizens and had children, but never obtained Swiss passports, would be unusually hard hit by expulsion."

Wow. So according to Prof Kohen the vast majority of foreigners who have lived all their lives in Switzerland, marrried to Swiss citizens and have children are guilty of crimes such as murder, rape, drug dealing or benefit fraud. I didn't know that.

Maybe one day Europe will be as pluralistic and tolerant as America. But I doubt it.

Swiss voters on Sunday approved a plan to automatically deport foreigners who commit serious crimes or benefit fraud.....

-“The majority of voters have sent a clear signal that they consider foreign criminality to be a serious problem,”

But legal experts say the law could breach offenders human rights.

The OFFENDERS human rights? Offenders are offenders. If they're Swiss, they can go to jail. If they're NOT Swiss, they should be deported. Seems simple enough.

Racists Swiss- It is good for them to start that.so that other countries can also retaliate in a hard way. Now,I know how to deal with a swizz, when I meet one.

Seems like a lot of people will be applying for citizenship now. They will be asked a question or two like, "so, why are you applying just now?" "um, because when I commit a crime, I do not want to be deported" "Oh, I see", said the passport guys.

It's a good idea: never mind the "rights" of the criminals, what about their responsibility to obey the law and the rights of citizens and lawful residents to go about their business unmolested?

The requirement to obey the law should be made a condition of granting a residence permit, then criminals wouldn't have grounds to whine about their "rights".

Er, what's the problem here? A country is "racist" for deporting non-citizens who commit SERIOUS crimes?

    Please.

If only black or Asian or Middle Eastern non-citizens were to be deported, then it could legitimately be considered racist. But the new legislation will apply to ALL non-citizens who commit serious offences.

And we are not talking about shoplifing or parking tickets. We are talking about murder, rape, drug dealing or benefit fraud, the latter constituting stealing from the Swiss people as a whole.

I can't see anything to get upset about here.

    Haha! That's just funny!

Common sense. I thought it didn't exist in Europe. Guess I was wrong.
