A small setback, a temporary one, but it will not suppress or avail the rebels. Everyday, the rebels get closer to their goal. Liberation is getting closer day by day. Hope Assad started packing.

The Syrian Army has enough firepower to flatten every neighborhood where the rebels are hiding in a matter of hours.

The fact that they haven't is an indication of the strict rules of engagement that the Syrian army is operating under.

The Syrian Army is not using massive firepower in this battle and instead they've opted for street battles with the rebels using small arms. The purpose of this strategy is to minimize casualties.

Aleppo will eventually be liberated by the army and police. It'll take time as the rebels have no qualms about applying the dirtiest tricks in the book, hiding in schools, hospitals and homes.

The rebels aren't even wearing uniforms and they're trying to blend in amongst the population. This is blatantly a violation of the geneva convention.

One of the methods being used by the Syrian army is to ask all military age men within ear shot certain questions in Syrian language and about Syrian customs. If the answers are not in the local language or dialect, an immediate pursuit ensues.

Sad, but not true. Assad is finished, just a matter of time. They will never retake the Aleppo back and even if they did, it would be only temporary. Like Panetta said, if he were Assad, he would run!

Colonel Abdel Jabbar al-Oqaidi, head of the Free Syrian Army military council for Aleppo, insisted government troops had “not progressed one meter,”

Really! Not even one single meter. This Al-Qaidi character who is leading the rebel army is laughable. He reminds me of the Iraqi commander who stood on rooftops giving reports of how the American invasion had not progressed at all yet he was surrounded by the American army.

As for Panetta he's been saying the same thing for the last year and a half.

According to American officials the Syrian government has been days away from collapse since this whole thing started. They're running of out expressions "nail in the coffin", "last leg", "finished". There are only so many in the English language but they have to dish out a new one every week lest it becomes dated. In fact Hillary said the same thing 6 months ago.

The fact of the matter is that the Syrian nation has stunned the American leadership by its resilience and solidarity.

    Much like a tumor.

Russia sells these helicopters to the dictator Assad who uses them to kill innocent Syrians. Putin jails punk rock musicians for opposing his tyrannical rule. But most contributors on this website seem more interested in denouncing Mitt Romney. Strange.

The Western media is trying to make this out as an attack by the army on the city.*

I like the last one particularly. Anyone perusing your posting history can see you're not for real but you've worked tirelessly with new allegations you refuse to substantiate each week. Keep up the good work Comrade, the dictator needs all the support he can get fighting a guerilla war against his own people. And we enjoy the comedy. :)

Ah yes, those Russian helecopters being used for humanitarian purposes, no doubt. Putin has blood on his hands just like Assad. Well, birds of a feather flock together.

Well given that the Syrians brought the helicopters before Putin was even in office and also given that 1/2 of the Syrian gunships are French helicopters l think you are slightly off the mark there.
