although all sides agree on the exclusion of extremists from the Islamic State group and the Al-Nusra Front tied to al-Qaida.

All of the rebels are extremists. You can't take up arms to violently overthrow a largely secular government in the name of Allah and still call yourself the 'moderate opposition'. The only reason that the rebels haven't been involved in as many wide scale atrocities on civilians is because they lack the weapons and equipment. I don't think any peace deal will last.

Wiki has one last sentence on their page about Riad Hijab, a report by Der Spiegel from August of 2012 that Riad Hijab was bribed by the French secret services to defect.

It also seems that Obama has decided to give up on ousting Assad and directing their favorite corporate mouthpiece the New York Times to pretty much admit some of their operations for the last 3 years, and then some, funding and training the civil war against Assad, and creating ISIS.

Although the Saudis have been public about their help arming rebel groups in Syria, the extent of their partnership with the C.I.A.’s covert action campaign and their direct financial support had not been disclosed.

And ALL this because Assad wouldn't cooperate with the Saud's on building oil and gas pipelines. "The Power Of Greed Compels You!"
