One wonders whether Mr Chen Shui-bian's conviction and jailing for corruption is based in fact or is in reality a fabricated "stitch up" by his political opponents in the Kuo Min Tang. Mr Chen's family has been severely punished for supposed corruption - with his wife being jailed for life, his son being jailed for two and half years and his daughter-in-law receiving a suspended sentence. Mr Chen's sentence is reminiscent of the gross miscarriage of justice in Malaysia under the Mahathir regime when Mr Anwar Ibrahim was falsely accused of sodomy and wrongfully jailed for seven long years. Could President Ma Ying-jeou's Government be acting in a similar manner?
He might in fact be guilty of graft and corruption, but its hard to believe it based on the prosecution of not only himself, but his family, and the unbelievably harsh sentences given. Any way you read this, it seems like as the previous poster stated, a gross miscarriage of justice.

This is very, very harsh. I'm all for corrupt leaders doing time, but wow...
