Its the "crusades" all over again with these folks. Thats what you get for giving into these kinds of hard headed, narrow minded religious fanatics.

Don't tolerate the Taliban's intolerance. Give them an inch and they have shown repeatedly they will take a mile.

He suggested the militants would give up their weapons voluntarily after some time.

Pakistan's Civilian Govt may give up much earlier...Military takeover.

But three weeks since the cease-fire took hold, the Taliban appear to have used the pause in fighting to tighten their hold over the Swat Valley, especially in and around the main town of Mingora.

Gosh, if only the could have had some kind of precedent to look at in the past....they would have seen this coming.

Pakistan really screwed up and we sat by and watched it happen. I'm not sure we could have done anything, but we watched a bad thing happen. < :-)

Giving into a force that is led by religion is stupid. We have only seen the beginning.

So while Obama sends 17,000 more soldiers on a wild goose chase to Afghanistan, the jihadist are building their new Caliphate in Pakistan... one valley at the time. How bizarre.

@WilliB - Sorry, but I don't see your point. The fact that we didn't wait and finish the job in Afghanistan in the first place before moving on to Iraq, and subsequently fighting two wars at once, plays a major role in why so many Taliban were able to take refuge in Pakistan and setup shop.

    FreeinJapan:

How in the world do you define "finishing the job" in Afghanistan, and where do you get strange idea from that the jihadists who now rule the Swat valley as an islamist Shariah region are somehow "refugees" from Afghanistan?!

The Taliban and other jihadist are not fleeing Afghanistan, they are getting stronger by the day, and no number of hapless soldiers sent by the great military leader Obama into the Afghanistan mountains will stop that.

“Here we are Muslims. We are the supporters of the Islamic system and this is our right and we will use our right to live according to the Quran and the Hadiths,” he said, referring to Islam’s holy texts.

And if anyone doesn't like it, we will murder them!

May I ask, are you saying that we need to just bring our troops home from Afghanistan that no matter how many go in it's a lost cause? Or have I not understood your statement? < :-)
