Sure, this poor little girl is a Spy for the USA, Israel, the UK and for anybody who does not want to be a SLAVE to the backwards ideologies of these knuckle dragging fools a.k.a. the Taliban, so yup they were justified to try and kill off this little girl is the scary, dangerous SPY for the so called WEST??? Hahahaha! These gorillas are even thicker in the head than I suspected. I do hope not just Pakistan but many other countries around the world recognize that not every girl is an enemy, not a spy for the USA, etc..Not too sure what kind of more BS spin the Taliban etc..will try and put on this, maybe Taliban supporters can tell us what they think here on JT??

These self-justifications of extremist groups are enough to make one's day bad.

We did not attack her for raising voice for education. We targeted her for opposing mujahideen and their war,” said the Taliban. “Shariah (Islamic law) says that even a child can be killed if he is propagating against Islam

How to reason with people like this? Especially as what they do contradicts basic tenets of Islam.

9 ( +11 / -2 )

All because the Taliban believes that their make-believe sky god gets butt hurt over a 14 yr old child talking smack about their stupid laws!

“We did not attack her for raising voice for education. We targeted her for opposing mujahideen and their war,” said the Taliban. “Shariah (Islamic law) says that even a child can be killed if he is propagating against Islam.”

This is about two very different ideologies between Western belief and the Taliban belief. Until Westerners recognized the Taliban ideology (Islamic law) then they can make a case against the Taliban. The Taliban are afraid of Western influences which would diminshes the Taliban rule in Afghanistan. The Taliban will enforce their version of Islamic law to prevent that from happening by putting fear into the people.

-8 ( +0 / -8 )

Once again proves how the taliban (I refuse to capitalize) and fundamentalists are delusional. You will never, ever be able to reason with them.

10 ( +10 / -0 )

Especially as what they do contradicts basic tenets of Islam

You really have never read a single qur'an or any hadiths have you? At least read the "religious" text in question instead of just making a blind decision about a "religion" not being adhered to the way someone tells you it is. Believe it or not, these extremists did draw their interpretations from the qur'an without whitewashing it. They believe this girl was a threat to their religious beliefs and attempted to "resolve" it with what it actually does state in the qur'an.

-4 ( +2 / -6 )

government officials have refrained from publicly criticizing the Taliban

They need to learn courage from the example of Malala Yousufzai. The Taliban are vermin that feed on fear.

10 ( +10 / -0 )

The Taliban are just ignorant men with little or no formal education. That is the real reason why Taliban would prevent girls from going to school. They don't want the girls growing up into educated women and know better than their men. Their imans are just as stupid or cunning. The imans control the ignorant men, they in turn whip the girls and women folks into ignorance. Centuries old customs for the religious fools to keep power.

11 ( +11 / -0 )

These people are absolute monsters! This girl is amazing, she has more guts then I do to go against the Taliban. These idiots need to get out of the 9th century and come back to the 20th century. I hope these people get caught and get the justice they so seriously deserve!

6 ( +6 / -0 )

Sorry Tom Webb, but "The imans control the ignorant men..." Ha ha ha. That is pretty classic.

-4 ( +0 / -4 )

One thing missing from all reported articles, is that the leaders of Islam have not stood up and openly criticised this barbaric act in the name of Islam. How do people living in peaceful Islamic countries see their Holy Koran used, and the interpretation that they, not only the Taliban, use it for a "Holy War." against the west. Religion has been misinterpreted throughout history, and has got a lot of blood on its hands as a result.

If that is the case then why are Western countries forsaken their free speech freedom when it comes to Islamic law?

Shut up and play nice: How the Western world is limiting free speech @ <http://www.washingtonpost.com/opinions/the-four-arguments-the-western-world-uses-to-limit-free-speech/2012/10/12/e0573bd4-116d-11e2-a16b-2c110031514a_story.html

Watched a good Ted Talk about terrorism and branding.

The point was to publicize these types of attacks to sway support for extremists. Basically, destroy the extremist brand by showing the irrationality of killing the own children for a misplaced ideology.

Hopefully this Taliban's spin will backfire when people realize how ridiculous the justifications are.

4 ( +4 / -0 )

If you look at the arguments they are using, you can guess that this is what they say to justify most of their murders. This reminds me of the witch trials of the Middle Ages, scripture being used to focus irrational hysteria, to back up a tyrannical status quo.

Meantime the population remains cowed.

Use of the words 'Western spy' as justification for extra-judicial killings also suggests to me that Julian Assange may have done more damage than he realizes.

2 ( +2 / -0 )

why are Western countries forsaken their free speech freedom when it comes to Islamic law?

Very good point skipbeat. Why are Western governments endorsing the spurious right not to be offended or to defend so-called holy beliefs with violence? The attack on Malala Yousufzai shows the ultimate consequences of this kind of appeasement of religious lunacy and bigotry.

Democracy VS Communism.

Democracy + Communism VS Terrorrism.

FOR WHAT???

Lets get real.........

For supremacy and arm's sales profits.

0 ( +1 / -1 )

I thought terrorists do these kinds of things because of foreign policy?

-1 ( +1 / -2 )

Malala is what is best in Pakistan.

And fundamentalism is killing that.

There can be no clearer illustration.

7 ( +7 / -0 )

A lot of Pakistanis (as usual) are in denial over the incident and have been spreading the word that the men who shot Malala were hired hit men being paid by some foreign entity. Absolutely everything bad that happens in that wacky country is seen as a CIA (or Mossad) backed conspiracy. in Pakistan, the truth doesn't stand the chance of a snowball in hell.

The perception that the "Taliban are ignorant men with little or no formal education" is why the West did not win the war in Afghanistan. There is a resurgent of the Taliban. Western politicans are no different than the imans. Islam is a centuries religion, but according to Geert Wilders it is an ideology.

The girls and the women benefited from Western influences. School and education is the best thing that changes the lives of the girls and the women by giving them a sense of independence and freedom. Once the NATO forces and American forces leaves that doorway may be shut. Keeping that doorway open will be a challenge.

Women in one Western country did not get to vote until 1920.

The only way to deal with terror is a sloid military action, US needs to send some troops to wipe out this non sense Islamic terorists, they are growing and soon they will put entire world in danger, we should wipe them out before they can treath our socity.

" Shariah (Islamic law) says that even a child can be killed if he is propagating against Islam "

The Taliban are absolutely correct. That is what Sharia does say indeed. The concept is called "Fitna". The Taliban are strictly following fundamental islamic doctrine.

What is really crazy is that the West is still sacrificing money and lives to protect the Afganistan Sharia regime against against Shariah insurgents. And is helping to topple secular dictators and replace them with more Sharia regimes in the Middle East.

LOL, yeah that is the narrative we will hear from the media if Romney is elected. Until then, that is on hold. Currently, the White House shall not be criticized.

I google'd and that it is not true.

I agree here. When Obama does it its ok when a republican does it its different. What's the point of fighting these people in Afghanistan/Pakistan and then support them in Lybia/Syria?

-3 ( +1 / -4 )

The Taliban are just like the NAZIs! One was back in Nazi Germany going after Jews, etc..here we have these dorks in parts of what Pakistan, Afghanistan etc..Germans were white and these Taliban are kind of brown?? But both FULL OF HATE and that is WRONG!! Just wrong, wrong wrong!! NMRK!!

i dont really like 'the american way' of solving things. It's like just level everything to make sure you got the right persons in there. But , but anyone NOT speaking out or opposing this i consider to be a potential threat this has all been going too far for way too long. Shooting 14 year old kids for praising an american president ? This is what we are all supposed to let go in the name of what was it? tolerance ? Those youtube movies guys were idiots at best, but they did not shoot anyone. These monsters however, i don't see the tolerance towards religion inthere anywhere

-3 ( +0 / -3 )

What a bunch of pussies thugs with guns afraid of a 14-yr-old unarmed schoolgirl.

5 ( +5 / -0 )

Total scum... How can they say that Islam is a religion of peace when it advocates the killing of children who speak out?

4 ( +4 / -0 )

I am entirely comfortable offering a comment on the Taliban.

Dear Taliban,

Once again you have proven that you know nothing of your own faith. Your religion does not sanction such acts of violence against innocents. Only your twisted interpretation of it does. Your actions were those of criminals and not of rightous men. Your beliefs are out of sync with the majority of ethical and true Muslims world wide.

In short, you are self centered scum. No better than MS-13 or any other gang of thugs. What you have done in assaulting this girl is create the first clear example that all people around the world can understand what your twisted ideas really stand for. You have made an example of this girl as a symbol of what Islam should be. And you have ended the silence of the Muslim world for extremism. You have initiated your own downfall and I applaud it.

3 ( +4 / -1 )

@Thunderbird2

How can they say that Islam is a religion of peace when it advocates the killing of children who speak out?

It doesn't and those who are saying that it is a religion of peace who are billions are not doing such thing and are against such thing. As tkoind2 said these are thugs.

1 ( +3 / -2 )

@HonestDictator,

Believe it or not, these extremists did draw their interpretations from the qur'an without whitewashing it. They believe this girl was a threat to their religious beliefs and attempted to "resolve" it with what it actually does state in the qur'an.

Which chapter and verse please?I'm willing to check right away.

1 ( +3 / -2 )

Quote Mirai : "All because the Taliban believes that their make-believe sky god..."

By saying this you put yourself in the ranks of the Kafir/Kuffar unbelievers, and your opinion becomes worthless to the Taliban.

If you say that the Taliban do not understand Allah, that they do not understand that Allah and God are one, that there is no God but God, and the Taliban need to understand the nature of Allah before preaching about him or murdering in his name, then you actually stand on higher moral high ground than the Taliban.

-3 ( +1 / -4 )

It is so sad that in an era where most of the civilized world is tolerant of people and their beliefs that acts of violence like this are allowed to continue.

When will the Islamic world take a stand against people who act like this? When will Muslims around the world take action on their own to stop women, and children from being victims of ignorance?

3 ( +3 / -0 )

The USA was too busy trying to "win the hearts and minds of the people of Afghanistan" when they should have concentrated on splattering the hearts and minds of the Taliban on the battlefield! Anyone who murders children in the name of a religion should not be considered human.

4 ( +4 / -0 )

“We did not attack her for raising voice for education. We targeted her for opposing mujahideen and their war,” said the Taliban. “Shariah (Islamic law) says that even a child can be killed if he is propagating against Islam.”

Because a 14 year old girl really poses a threat to a multinational terrorist operation. This isn't a summer action film, there is no chosen child of prophesy destined to wipe you out, just a young girl that talking about schools and your thugs shot her in the head. What does it say about your operation that you feel threatened by the 'opposition' of a little girl?

3 ( +3 / -0 )

A good article here on the Taliban attitude to children, http://www.aljazeera.com/indepth/opinion/2012/10/20121014102539659862.html

0 ( +0 / -0 )

your thugs shot her..

Exactly. The taliban are just a bunch of violent thugs who have to be dealt with. The sad fact that they can use Islam to justify their actions just makes it all the worse. Just a bunch of dark ages despots trying to hang onto power. Ugly.

1 ( +1 / -0 )

Sure the TALIBAN are a bunch of goons but just to be fair, as far as I can tell they are not the only nutcases around the world that treat women like slaves and intimidate or kill off children, or them folk who do not want to follow them true teachings of god, back in Waco, Texas, how about them Branch Davidians??

1 ( +1 / -0 )

Isn't it ironic that many Taliban and al-qaeda leaders were either American born or american educated?

Pakistan is a beautiful country and I hope one day it can find peace.

0 ( +3 / -3 )

America has been a beacon of light for the poor and the dispossessed for centuries. It is natural for outsiders and semi-immigrants to have a love-hate relationship with her.

When the hate gets support from 'religion' then the world has problems...

2 ( +2 / -0 )

@afroengineer, I've got some surahs for you then. But it is highly likely that the Taliban draw some of their "justification" from these types of surahs. I'll bring up more for you but I've been quite busy lately and time is short.

SURAH 65:08 How many populations that insolently opposed the command of their Lord and of His Messengers, did We not then call into account - to severe account? - and We imposed upon them an exemplary punishment.

SURAH 66:09 Oh Prophet (Mohammed)! Strive hard against the Unbelievers and the Hypocrites, and be firm against them. Their abode is Hell, - an evil refuge (indeed).

Its not so much how I interpret the qur'an and hadiths, its how they interpret Islam that you should be confronting THEM for.

I’m usually one of the anti-Muslim screamers on here myself, but I’ve allowed myself to really think about it before offering a reply. What we have to keep in mind is that with comments that we in the modern, rational (well sometimes rational) world make about Islam being caught in another time with barbaric and archaic rules and belief systems – that’s fundamentally true. And I don’t really mean that as a knock against regional Muslims per say. And as much as I hate to state this kind of thing – because too often it’s used as an excuse and a knock against the west in general – it is sort of the fault of the moderns western world. Hear me out before you react.

Western policy towards many of the regions that harbor belief in Islam has traditionally been one of being a parasite with one-sided benefit. We take resources from these nations (mainly oil, but other things as well) and at various times made them colonies to serve our needs. A whole discussion could be made about blame – and a good part of it has to be put on the backs of those in country who benefited from this relationship – the sheiks, warlords and those who made great profit. But in the main, we took what we needed and in return gave back very little. As a result of this system these nations have remained in another age; a backwards thinking age as we so frequently point out.

Remember that not so long ago from an historical standpoint we (the Western, modern, ‘civilized’ nations) were in the same place. The witch trials have been mentioned and are a good example, as well as the Inquisition and various other things that accused and murdered, all in the name of Christianity. Women haven’t had the vote for so very long, and there are still those in this country – the bastion of modern thought - that think ‘a woman’s place is in the home’.

There are two points to my ramblings. One is that while we get enraged by the sheer lunacy of these Muslim extremists, they are but a scary reflection of our own social and cultural development (just at a much earlier and more violent phase). The second point, or rather conclusion, would be that rather than a solution of endless wars and trying to ‘rub them off the face of the earth’ (which will very likely rub a great many of us off the face of the earth as well, particularly if real nuclear weapons get into the hands of the insane) I would counter that the solution lies in a more peaceful tact of greatly assisting these nations to reach the modern age and highly raise the standard of living of their citizenry. Eventually the Taliban and all the religious nut jobs will lose the terror hold and go away. And I think that could happen in a remarkably short time if development were really begun. There must be a way that smart bods could develop and open up their economies so that both sides would benefit; western industry from the new markets and resources, and the people of these poor and backwards nations in entering the modern world and freeing themselves from old terrors.

I know – it’s both one of those ‘no duh’ sort of summations, and one that is a damned hard road to tow with many that have thought similarly and tried. But it does seem the obvious path.

And while I don’t want to offer up any anti-religious rhetoric to spoil the sentiment (personally I agree with Napoleon that ‘religion was invented by the rich to keep the poor from killing them’) – it is interesting that I read a report that here in the states religion is sort of fading to a degree. I think it will be a good thing when we can start thinking about the real rather than the fantasy. One can believe in spiritual living and growth, and even a great power without being a nutjob about it, and it being the driving force behind every action.

1 ( +1 / -0 )

I’m usually one of the anti-Muslim screamers on here myself, but I’ve allowed myself to really think about it before offering a reply.

Careful there. Keep following that course of action and it won't be very long before people accuse you of being a liberal.

Of course, being a liberal myself, I am all for really thinking about things rather than going for the easiest, knee-jerk response to issues. I thought your post was very well thought-out and persuasive. I agree with and could provide more support for many of your points.

One can believe in spiritual living and growth, and even a great power without being a nutjob about it, and it being the driving force behind every action.

We all risk becoming nutjobs over issues we feel passionately about. That is why cool, calm, detachment is called for when trying to reason things out. (On the other hand, religion often inflames the passions, and many Americans' sense of themselves and their mission often borders on the religious.)

0 ( +1 / -1 )

@TigermothII make sure you can tell the difference between those who are anti-muslim (meaning you're against the followers and believers of Islam) and anti-Islam (against the religious ideology itself). If you can't clarify the difference between the two then its quite a bad situation to put yourself. Would you say you're anti-christian(against the followers), or anti-Christianity (against the religion), Anti-buddist, or anti-buddism. I'm sure you've gotten the picture now.

Personally 11 years ago I didn't care about Islam until some organization of folks (which there are more and more showing their faces) decided that they were killing others in the name of upholding their religious beliefs and claiming quite loudly that people that were not believing the same as they were should die or be subjugated. As I looked deeper into the history that happened further back beyond these past 11 years (as well as some odd interactions with my uncle 16 years ago) and up the the present where such situations keep popping up under the guise of this same religious belief I can't help but comprehend that something is wrong with an ideology that continues to create people that believe (twisted or not) in such a way. Can't have this much "smoke" without a fire burning can you?
