Everywhere around the world where conflicts arise America shows up. Even if there would be a conflict between Zanzibar and Andorra, Washington would meddle in. Poor guys in DC, they still think their "heal the world" program is appreciated...........till a next 9-11 occurs.

Good for Yemen. Make your voice heard. Don't let anyone else try and step in. This is what the world wants, ie a stable, active and positive government in Yemen, in Iraq, in Afghanistan, in Iran, in Pakistan, in Somalia. Able to treat the rotten bits.

I wonder if there is some way that the US can leave some matters to the Yemeni government and just fly some sorties or send up drones to take out choice targets. Low profile, low cost, low commitment. Just monitoring and interdicting. All the loud bluster just gets the US sucked into a quagmire and another steep learning curve.
I wonder if there is a more intelligent model for the US to get what it wants without propping up this or destroying that and flooding the country with billions of dollars. The US is already propping up Georgia, Iraq, Afghanistan, and probably a half dozen other regimes worldwide, maybe adding Yemen to the list is in nobody's interest.

It's not all that easy. It's one thing to know that the US is playing recon and snooping and pooping the Yemen.
It's totally something else to use force in another country, even sanctioned by their own government. You know how Pakistan has been so against us going into there. Same difference. Same enemy. < :-)

Easy? Who said it would be easy? I am assuming that these people are earning their pay and not just "pooping." Obviously the point is that things did not work out well in Pakistan. Maybe taking some lessons from that, US diplomats and military will not have to invent the wheel every time with... the same enemy. If the US absolutely positively has to do something, maybe it could use a strategy that has NOT failed before.
Is anybody getting the feeling that the US is doling out billions in aid just to keep congress from having to declare war? I mean, 40 years ago, the US would say, as it did with Cambodia: solve the problem or we will. Nowadays, it gives a few billion to the government and rolls the tanks without any declaration of war. No muss no fuss. No Senate. I am sure that the Yemeni government will let the US do whatever it wants if they get a few billion more or less. Then they aid and succor Al Qaeda enough to keep the good times rolling. These protests from Yemenis are just the first stage in bargaining, I am sure.
Look at Pakistan. That is a war. Who declared that? But there is the US, all embroiled in domestic/international politics, bombing people. Is there any oversight at all there? Is the press even there?

You could look at Yemen this way.
Imagine the Native Americans still being in charge in their various regions of of the United States. Imagine the checks and balances and the tricky job of governance for any top leader. Imagine the depth of understanding he/she would need to keep it all juggling. Imagine two tribes in the north and in the south with independent military ambitions, who may be harboring wanted natives from other areas. Imagine the struggle for moral highground and supremacy of spirit.
Imagine another totally outside power steps in with no understanding and no awareness of the different loyalties and hidden connections among the peoples, and pours in huge amounts of cash and weapons. Is it better for this power to take over completely, or step back and allow the older and more experienced government to handle things?

The Yemen government will say whatever the stupid Western governments want to hear to pay out assistance.
Meanwhile, Al Quaeda, of course, is everwhere where islam is.
