Thailand is developing a very unhealthy appetite for lesse majeste accusations and convictions. As the article implies, it's being liberally applied to suppress political speech (dissent) in Thailand.

I doubt there was any les majeste at all. The redshirts are overwhelmingly from the countryside where the king is highly respected. It is pretty clear that the les majeste laws are used for political purposes by the Thai government, much like the infamous blasphemy laws are used in Pakistan.

So what did she say?

@gonemad he pretty much criticised the Thai "royal" family in something he wrote IN THE US. They're arresting him for a "crime" that he did that wasn't even on their soil at the time. Thats where a lot of people are upset about this is that Thailand is applying their local laws to what people do outside of their country.

Thailand won't have anything on the USA when the military budget passes with this new law removing yet another constitutional right.
Pretty soon the USA government will be able to arrest its own citizens both abroad and on American soil and throw them into the military courts without trial or even charges...! At that point, I say, Bradley Manning, move over because you are about to have a lot of company. Where is this going?
