But China has refused to participate in the proceedings, arguing the Permanent Court of Arbitration—which is more than a century old and based in The Hague—had no jurisdiction over the case.

Expect more of this as China grows stronger and stronger. Remember folks: "international law" is a creature of Western Power. As China grows stronger, it will attempt to construct/imbue the international system with its own values;

Namely, kow tow.

ALLEGED? There's nothing alleged about what China is doing on multiple reefs in the SCC. We know exactly what the Chinese are doing there right down to the number/type of bulldozers being used on the projects. It's time we share the intel with the Hague and call China's hand.

Using China's logic, I would never drive my car to work for leave my home unattended for fear that I would lose my parking spot and home just because I wasn't there when they came around knocking. "Well, we didn't see anyone here so we just claimed it as ours so deal with it". That appears to be China's 'Modus operandi'.
