So prostitution USED to be LEGAL over in Belgium up to 2013??? So what went wrong after that?? When will Japan get with the program??Anyway, prostitution has been around as long as mankind has been around, and my guess is that it will NOT suddenly go away any time soon, so don't your breaths on this one.

Auhh, there are still many nations where organized prostitution is legal. Australia, Netherlands, Nevada(US), etc.

Eric Dupond-Moretti, a lawyer for one of the defendants in this week’s trial, says “call-girls are 80 percent, maybe 70 percent of the time solicited” to conclude business deals.

Take me there now.

“In some Arab countries, a businessman who doesn’t have a girl in his bedroom will refuse to sign a contract,” he said.

Priceless

If they need tarts to get a deal signed it must be a pretty ropey deal.

In many places this is considered a sign of corruption. If your political leaders can't show any moral fiber or proper leadership for people to look up to then it shows they lack the ability to run a country properly if all it takes is a prostitute to make them abandon proper legislation for the country.

While prostitution may be legal in certain countries and such, it's not every woman's chosen profession and the vast majority are forced or coerced into it. How many young girls get up one day and say their life long dream is to become a prostitute? How would any father feel if their daughter went down that path? When a woman that sells her body for a living reaches 50,60,70+ what condition is her life in? It certainly isn't relaxing in her own mansion on a beach somewhere...

Plus, if you have to pay for it, then something's already wrong in the first place.

I don't think that's true, unless you consider the draw of being able to make lots of money quickly as coercion.

Some guys aren't going to be able to get it unless they pay for it. If some woman is willing to take money from those guys to have sex with them, then it works for both of them.

Also, I believe this hypothesis to be wrong anyways - look at Charlie Sheen, he by no means has to pay for it, the guy has managed to marry a couple of beautiful women - but he has still used prostitutes. He chooses to pay for them, there is no necessity.

There is nothing new about this.

"Carole, 41, a former prostitute who worked the champagne bars and brothels of Belgium, where the trade is legal, until 2013." :

She worked there until just over a year or so ago...Belgium, where the trade is legal...poorly written i suppose

Right, why do prostitution when one can make much more money and consistent work as a porn star? I guarantee you, prostitution is not a chosen profession by a vast majority of women. Instead of thinking whatever you want with your guy brain, try asking women what they think about it.

When I read the headline, my first though was, "CEOs..."

So has slavery. Doesn't make it right. Imagine finding your daughter working the streets and when you ask her what she's doing for a living she's honest about it. It's always easy to say its ok as long as it's someone else you don't know right? A relative of mine (who also just happens to have been a drug addict) sold herself on the street recently be able to pay her rent. She's been selling her body for decades, and she' still can't get her life together. And I have to admit, she was quite the looker back in her youth, one wouldn't be able to tell if they saw her now.

Strawman innit. I didn't claim that the vast majority of women would choose to be prostitutes:

The original comment was regarding the vast majority of prostitutes, not the vast majority of women.

Here's a report on a study that seems to back up what I was saying: http://sciencenordic.com/what-drives-prostitute

No it's not. Think about it. How many prostitutes are physically, mentally abused worldwide and outright murdered each day, as I said I have a RELATIVE that DOES IT, NOT BY CHOICE. She has lost a few of her "co-workers" as well. I could even go back as far to a grandparent that was forced into prostitution in WWII.

You always talk from a point of inexperience dealing with individuals that have actually gone through it. And your lack of truly understanding the situation, and compassion to understand what the women are actually going through (obviously because you're a guy, and therefore trying to justify why prostitution should be fine...) shows that phallic logic has gotten the better of you. How many relatives do you have, that have been in prostitution? Have their lives turned out peachy? Remember sex slavery is still going on in this day and age.

Usually a porn star is working for an adult film industry in many western countries has a better track record of not being murdered or beaten, than getting randomly picked up (or sent out) by a stranger in a car or hotel room to make some money.

Stats mean squat when you're dealing with a largely criminal enterprise worldwide. When criminal organizations run the vast majority of brothels in the world, how accurate are those stats? Top that off with involvement with politicians, and the door to corruption blows wide open.
