I vote for 400ppm CO2 - I believe with the technology we have now, Al Gore's jet-set lifestyle and China we should be able to hit that mark.

Still, many economists, political leaders, and even some scientists believe that the worst effects of global warming can be avoided even with less stringent actions.

And even more people are questioning the 'science' behind the pronouncement of 350, or for that matter, the declaration of global warming, particularly considering the decade long cooling trend, as well as the hiding, manipulation, and falsification of data,

Just saw some evidence of outrageous manipulation. A line on a graph that shows evidence of recent global cooling from tree rings, has been totally erased behind the other hockey stick lines. Is this science?

The use of the word "believers" in this article is symbolic of a debate that has become political and religious than scientific. The debate isn't about controlling the climate. It's about controlling people's minds and grabbing their money by creating a climate of fear. The Earth's climate systems are big and so complex that any talk of manipulating them is laughable. The only thing we can say for sure about the climate is that it will change, as it has always changed, and the only sensible response to that is to improve our technology so that we are better able to adapt.

I have said it before - if global warming didnt exist we would have to invent it. Deniers need to be rounded up.

    Peace.

Molenir: "particularly considering the decade long cooling trend" Please explain me why our glaciers are receding, explain me why insects and plants found in warmer regions are now found in my region. That's right. Cooling down effect. Oh!... I forgot, could please explain me why we can navigate in the North-Pole easily. Ah... yeah.... the earth is cooling down.

Tumble - Please explain to me why the U.S. got hit with a big snowstorm last week. Ah, yeah, the Earth is warming up.

Tumble - Do I really need to? Why not just do a google search and find the answer yourself? You have a hard time reading? Fine...

I've read different things, but here you go. Global cooling trend refers to the whole thing. The entire earth. Amazing as it sounds, in one spot, it can be really hot, in another really cold. One area can warm, another cool. However on the whole, the average temperature is, no surprise, either going up or down. Fluctuating slowly. Right now, for the past 10 years, the temp has been falling. This after a decades long warming trend. The point being, you can have glaciers melting, and ooh, that makes big news. However whats not making the news is the thickening of the ice elsewhere.

When it comes to rising waters my advice is, to paraphrase mark Twain; "Buy high ground. There won't be enough of it."

The island nation of Micronesia is losing more and more land mass at an alarming rate. They are forecasting that the nation will only last another 90 years at the rate of coverage right now.

This increase in carbon and global warming/climate change has to be slowed down. Talk about killing the future. < :-)

Molenir: Ice is not thickening in Europe, North-Pole, South-Pole, Iceland. Permanent frozen land in Siberia is melting during in summer.

Sarge: 1 event. Just proves it's cooling down right? Don't see the bigger picture of weather deregulation? If you wait to have summer like weather in winter as a proof, you'll be pretty disappointed. This will not happen.

adaydream: Micronesia and Maldives see a see level raise but this is because the earth is cooling down. Ice don't melt but is thickening. I can cook my xmas turkey in my fridge.
