RIP.
Another one of the greats gone all too soon. His Ballads & Blues CD Record is still one of my favs and gets to spin often.
Empty Rooms, Parisiean Walkways, etc.

Frak, listening to the stuff he did over the years.
Including with BB King, etc truly hurts to have such a great talent gone.
RIP, you and Phil can now jam in heaven.

Oh dear, another great musician gone, choking on his vomit after knocking back champagne and brandy, one in a long line of similar incidents. Always loved the jazz version of Separate Ways...

You sure, reports I read said "Emphysema" as the cause of death.

Sad news. Had a few Thin Lizzy albums way back when, think I will get on YouTube today and revisit his work. Don't have any of his solo work, but know he was always a respected and talented musician. RIP.

@zenny there is a "Garry Moore" who died of Emphysema - different person. Gary Moore had been drinking brandy, champagne, chatting with people, then went to his room around 23:00, found by his girlfriend at 4 in the morning... guitar close to his bed. PM on the way.

So far the only website I can find saying he choked on his vomit is The Sun. Everywhere else seems to be waiting for the autopsy. The Sun though has taken info from sources that he had been drinking and that there was alcohol in the room and run with it. Maybe, but drunk guys have heart attacks all the time. If the Sun is right though, another reason to stay away from champagne. A fair number of people, including me, have an intolerance to the stuff. Most people don't know it though, they just think "I drank too much" (ie. they were drinking champagne along with other alcohol) and that is why they are sick.

Either way 58 is way too young to go, he still had a lot of good music in him.
I had a friend that drowned in his own vomit, so it is possible but you really need to imbibe a LOT of alcohol for that to happen.

While many can play the guitar well, Gary was one of few who could make is guitar speak. He was a tremendous musician, a good guy, and he will be sorely missed.
As the saying goes, if there is a Heaven, they must have a helluva band.

I'm sure Alan Partridge would be having a tribute session to Thin Lizzie called 'The last big thick slice of Thin Lizzie' on Norwich Radio.

I first got into Gary's music with the Wild Frontier album, and quickly discovered his back catalog. I've been listening to it for the 25 years or so since. A great musician and a good guy. He'll be sorely missed.
