Good for the average Joe in Korea. They can see the threat. It's just a shame government's kow-tow to American 'needs'. All American beef should be banned until they actually start testing in a realistic manner.
The American hamburger is a great tasting entree. But this country has harmed it's reputation by ignoring the safeguards that we agreed to when Japan and other countries started accepting US beef, after this nation's madcow scare.
As soon as Japan opened up their doors, a US slaughterhouse sent a shipment of beef with banned parts. How ignorant can we be? We have an accepting market and we sent crap.
Other countries listen and don't want our beef either, until we start testing each and every animal.
There are US slaughterhouses that are willing to accept that requirement to sell their beef abroad, but the US isn't willing to require that of the US industry as a whole.
So people in other countries protest something that they don't want. I don't hear them protesting against Australian beef. I don't know whether they are testing every animal or not, but some people in South Korea and other countries don't want our beef.
But who cares, daydream? There are thousands of other products on the market that kill a lot more than mad cow disease ever will. It's not about the beef, it's about politics. This protest is fueled by a media created circus.
Yep, there are. But the United States is politicing for the American Beef market, because of the American beef lobby politicing for a hell of a large market.
The American beef market is loosing to Australia hand over fist.
Yes, it's political. But if the American beef industry would just go on and test, then politicing would be out of the picture.
But if they tested, they might have to admit that the disease is more prevalent then they admit. < :-)

Interestingly enough I think he EU still has a total ban on US chickens too, due to them being dunked in chlorine to disinfect them.

Hit enter to soon.
Sounds like the korean requirements for import are similar to japans, and it looks like there were also hickups in their deliveries.

Of course it is political and the US is using pressure to get the bans removed.

ban beef period! Not just US but all beef. There is no real need for us to eat it anyway.
But, if a country is going to block another country's products then a reciprocal is to be expected. Its not politics, its business.
