This man IS a piece of work. Inciting a religious war. Back to the middle ages.

I don't follow the campaign much, but I get the impression that Trump put himself forward as a candidate for the publicity without any expectation of being selected. When he finds that he's actually doing well in the polls, he makes outrageous statements hoping to be dumped. He'll really start to panic if his popularity goes up after this one.

10 ( +11 / -1 )

Trump is a clown. His supporters, dupes.

7 ( +20 / -13 )

As much as I dislike what he stands for, I respect the fact that he is not being a hypocrite saying 'keep out the refugees, but keep letting in the tourists'.

But, this is just likely to alienate more people, so in the end it's a good thing.

0 ( +7 / -7 )

Immigration and terrorism are going to be big factors in next US election. Trump is laying down an early marker. The rest of the GOP candidates are going to have to match him for craziness. They are well capable.

1 ( +6 / -5 )

Brilliant idea! - but we cant't trust the foreigners to do the vetting. This's how it'll work: Every port of entry will be equipped with a Koran attached to the floor, and all those who refuse to trample on it will be turned away. The man is a genius! Very cost-effective, and it will make America's position in the world so much more secure.

13 ( +14 / -1 )

Bernie Sanders said: “Trump and others want us to hate all Muslims.

Sanders is wrong. From California to Paris, Jihadis have already created enough hate. Even as the "peaceful" muslims just stand around as if nothing is wrong.

The rest of the GOP candidates are going to have to match him for craziness.

What happened in San Bernardino was the largest terror incident since 9/11 on US soil. And your talking about "craziness??" Wake up and smell the coffee.

-13 ( +10 / -23 )

It is perfectly legal to stop all immigration from the Arab Gulf states but screening all tourists and immigrants based solely on religion, I don't think so.

2 ( +5 / -3 )

Ha! Sure , criticize Trump. I see no presidential candidate, either Dems nor Reps addressing the REAL issue of ISIS, and that is the petrodollar and the US's hegemony over the ME resources. Even Sanders says we have to defeat ISIS. What a joke. You can't defeat something unless you go to the root cause.

Maybe Rand Paul is the only one close, all the rest will keep lying and shoveling the "terrorism" BS and you all will keep eating it. Can't wait for the next next generation, anyone 10 years old and older right now are lost.

Here's an idea,

3 ( +6 / -3 )

Even Sanders says we have to defeat ISIS. What a joke. You can't defeat something unless you go to the root cause.

Right. Does Sanders even recognize "radical islam" or "extreme islam"? The incumbents don't. Why? Why not call it what it is- then go figure out how to engage the problem.

-8 ( +6 / -14 )

Trump's whole campaign reads like Mel Brooks' The Producers.

Don't be stupid, be a smartie. Come and join the Grand Old Party!

2 ( +6 / -4 )

Better than his original plan-- sending them by train to camps for "showers."

0 ( +4 / -4 )

But... but ... Isn't USA all about freedom, freedom of religion in particular ?!

2 ( +5 / -3 )

This man IS a piece of work. Inciting a religious war. Back to the middle ages.

Incite a religious war? But when ISIS leaders say, "We will raise the flag of Allah in the white house", this is not alarming. That's okay with you.

You're right, is a piece if work. But its the "others" who are drawing us back to the middle ages.

-3 ( +12 / -15 )

Speaking of pieces of work, finished that head count of Rastafarians living in Jamaica, Queens, NYC, yet?

0 ( +0 / -0 )

I feel sorry for Muslims already living in the US and are citizens, are they to be made stateless and deported?

3 ( +6 / -3 )

But, this is just likely to alienate more people, so in the end it's a good thing.

Sure it will. It'll alienate those who want to blow up non-Muslims.

0 ( +5 / -5 )

In America in 2013 there 32,719 traffic deaths. Meanwhile 3 Americans were killed in the Boston Marathon bombings by two young Muslim men and there was the Wichita bombing attempt also carried out by a Muslim but nobody died.

Why is it that people so casually get into their cars and drive off, but are so petrified that some Muslim is out to get them?

I will also say this for 2013. A guy named Everett Dutschke sent letters with ricin in them to Obama and a senator. His religion? I don't know. It was not stated. There was also the LA International airport shooting carried out by Paul Anthony Ciancia. One died. His religion? I don't know. It wasn't stated.

Ever notice we can always be sure of the religion if the terrorist is Muslim, or claims to be, but otherwise, we can't be sure? How's that?

This year we had the San Bernadino shootings, 14 dead, and the religion of the perps has been made clear. Also there were the Chatanooga shootings by Muhammad Youssef Abdulazeez, killing 5. His religion will be guessed at immediately. But we also had the Colorado Springs Planned Parenthood attack by Robert L. Dear, killing 3, but his religion has not been made clear and few want to guess. Dylan Roof killed 9 in Charleston. Have not heard what his religion is yet. Did you guess his religion? And there were more than 350 mass shootings so far this year. What was the religion of those perps?

Seems to me we would be safer to let in all the Muslims and kick out all the drivers and all those we might guess to be Christians!

-1 ( +8 / -9 )

What a complete nut! And this is still the Republicans front-runner? Shame on you.

1 ( +6 / -5 )

Hard to take him seriously as a politician but I do kinda like him. He's like when I first watched Spinal Tap....when mocumetaries were a new thing. You're not really sure if he's for real or just messing with us...

-1 ( +4 / -5 )

I like what Trump has said. Maybe it will do something to galvanize the "moderate" Muslim population of the US who seem to do little but voice a few platitudes ( when pressed) and wait around for local governments to "reach out" to them.

0 ( +6 / -6 )

I feel sorry for Muslims already living in the US and are citizens, are they to be made stateless and deported?

The law can't touch citizens but as a government and people we absolutely have a right to decide who comes into the country as an immigrant or on a tourist visa. Mass immigration from Asia, Latin America and Africa didn't even start until 1965. From 1924 until the mid '60's there were relatively low levels, mostly consisting of refugees fleeing the political turmoil in Germany during the war and some from China against Japan.

0 ( +3 / -3 )

The Republican dilemma: nobody can be nominated by the party without displaying a degree of craziness that makes winning a presidential election impossible. What a pity!

1 ( +4 / -3 )

I don't like Trump, but I like that he is a candidate. I loved it in the first debate when he stated he paid off both sides to further his business plans. It made both the Democrats and Republicans squirm.

0 ( +3 / -3 )

I feel sorry for Muslims already living in the US and are citizens, are they to be made stateless and deported?

If Trump had his way, they'd be in concentration camps. And it's not just one man who is crazy. There are lot of Americans that agree with him, and vote for him. That's the crazy part about it.

3 ( +9 / -6 )

In America in 2013 there 32,719 traffic deaths. Meanwhile 3 Americans were killed in the Boston Marathon bombings by two young Muslim men and there was the Wichita bombing attempt also carried out by a Muslim but nobody died.

Look... squirrel!

-4 ( +3 / -7 )

I like what Trump has said. Maybe it will do something to galvanize the "moderate" Muslim population of the US

"Galvanize" is certainly the right word.

who seem to do little but voice a few platitudes ( when pressed) and wait around for local governments to "reach out" to them.

Talk like this is bound to elicit a reaction in the opposite direction. Isn't that obvious? What TeaRump is going to do is incite Muslim terror attacks with his big mouth, then he is going to condemn Muslims some more when it happens and scream about "innocent" America is a victim.

Yes, his fat mouth has no "real" power. Not yet. But still, stupid people will take the bait. It won't take many. Then, due to TeaRump's self fulfilling prophecy, the war on Islam will be on. The best we can hope for is that TeaRump will be first casualty, but at the hands of a person whose religion we can only blindly guess at, perhaps a man named Joe Smith or something.

Anyway, I don't know why you want statements from Muslims anyway. I don't think you will listen and neither do they I bet. Actions speak louder than words, and people like yourself are obviously deaf to the tune of 99 percent of them doing nothing wrong.

2 ( +4 / -2 )

You tell em Trump! Unlike Europe, America still has time to save itself from complete Islamic colonisation and inevitable obliteration. Don't allow the liberals to destroy America because of their sheer naive blind stupidity. If Trump, Farage and Le Pen were all elected the world would be a much better and safer place.

1 ( +11 / -10 )

He did not respond to questions about whether it would also include Muslims who are U.S. citizens and travel outside of the country

To which country and for what purpose? Muslims shouldn't think travel restrictions (imposed by Federal Authorities), terms and conditions of their "whereabouts" are discriminatory.

C'mon people. We are talking about national security. Didn't obama say in his speech recently that as President of the US, the safety of the american people is his biggest responsibility? I hope that wasn't more of his, "mumbo jumbo" talk.

-7 ( +5 / -12 )

Now that's customer service: Trump knows exactly what his audience wants and he delivers. Say what you want about consumerism, but I think it's rather glorious.

0 ( +2 / -2 )

What the purpose of the 1st amendment to the US constitution ?

0 ( +2 / -2 )

Bernie Sanders wanting free education for everyone is no crazier.

American Muslims who are in support of snuffing out extremists should get off their butts and start speaking up more.

Trump said a few days ago that he wouldnt be surprised if the sister and parents knew about any extremist connections. Then everyone jumped on him with theirracist, fascistnonsense. Turns out hes right again. The father and sister knew loads and should be thrown in the slammer.

-2 ( +3 / -5 )

A little over the top, but I understand the anger of the people. I wouldn't say what Trump said was smart, but that comment like with his other previous comments won't hurt him. We should at least scrutinize the refugees, I think that's where most people feel the most uneasy.

-9 ( +2 / -11 )

Right on , Rick!

1 ( +4 / -3 )

Literally Hitler.

I am no fan of Trump but you are comparing him to Hitler? His is a buffoon - not one of the most evil men in human history. Let's dial it back a bit folks.

0 ( +6 / -6 )

Look... squirrel!

Indeed, that is precisely what TeaRump is doing. He is trying to take your attention away from what is really killing Americans, which are things like traffic deaths and pseudo Christian mass shootings. He is doing this by yelling "Lookee over there!" an American political tactic that certainly worked well for Bush jr. He knows what works and he knows that a majority of Americans prefer scary fantasies to the the scary truth.

0 ( +2 / -2 )

We should at least scrutinize the refugees, I think that's where most people feel the most uneasy.

But they didn't kill 14 people. It was Saudi Arabia at the center of things once again.

-4 ( +0 / -4 )

Idiot! So a foreigner commits a mass murder therefore all foreigners are guilty?

0 ( +3 / -3 )

Nail meet coffin.....you're done son...wash up and go home.

4 ( +4 / -0 )

So President Obama was ridiculed by the far right for his address to the nation which included urging Americans not to be racist. The very next day Donald Trump serves up this vile proposal !

1 ( +3 / -2 )

Good old Republicans! This is their new leader, and no matter what he says or does, the Republicans of the nation are licking his boots. The other politicians are now absolutely scared and running in circles because their little experiment is now backfiring and will further sink the party. Two months away and the man still has a commanding lead; although fellow nutjob Cruz has gained some ground through his outright lies and self-promotion videos where he forces his family to praise him.

Hahaha... nice work, Republicans.

4 ( +7 / -3 )

Mr. Trump of correct on this issue. Being proactive is far more desirable than being reactive . . . .

-1 ( +4 / -5 )

First of all, this is like walking on a tightrope. The arguments on both sides have certain merits. It's very important for Americans and the U.S. government not to discriminate against U.S. citizens who happen to be Muslims. That would be unrealistic. For the most part, Muslim-Americans are good people and law abiding citizens and it's highly important for their constitutional rights to be respected. We still live in a free country and this is our greatest strength, so let's not blow it. Looking at the other side of the coin, there are a few rotten apples who would like nothing better than to kill as many people as they possibly can. Some people might say, "Exactly! We're just talking about a few bad apples so what harm could they possibly be?" Well, on 9/11 a handful of cunning and determined extremists changed the world when they hijacked 4 commercial airliners and slammed 3 of them into the World Trade Center and the Pentagon.

The question is this: Isn't it possible for Americans to respect the constitutional rights of their fellow citizens who are Muslims, but at the same time limit the flow of Muslims from particular parts of the world which are, for the most part, Islamic?

As far as the isolated mass shootings committed by nut jobs & psychopaths, America seems to have already become desensitized after such tragic events as Columbine, Aurora and Sandy Hook, all committed by young psychotic white males. So what makes this different from 9/11 and San Bernardino? Again, as we saw on 9/11, a handful of determined AQ terrorists changed the world through their cunning, planning and purpose, and that's the primary difference. In other words, yeah, there are just a few bad apples, but look at what a few determined bad apples can do when they have an intelligent plan and purpose.

0 ( +1 / -1 )

"So a foreigner commits a mass murder therefore all foreigners are guilty?"

A foreigner tried to use a shoe bomb to blow up a plane a few years back. That is why all airline travelers (Americans and non-Americans) now walks tippy toe in U.S. airports. It's just the way things are now . . . .

0 ( +1 / -1 )

So, he's blaming the gaijins?

1 ( +2 / -1 )

@hydropower

"TeaRump"? Come on, stop the name calling. It lowers the level of the message what you are put across. . . .

0 ( +3 / -3 )

I am no fan of Trump but you are comparing him to Hitler? His is a buffoon - not one of the most evil men in human history. Let's dial it back a bit folks.

When have you known liberals to say something without personal ad hominem attacks? Like Obama did 8 years ago, Trump is a genius at tapping into fears and anxieties of the people and like Obama, he's a pro at that, most definitely.

He knows what works and he knows that a majority of Americans prefer scary fantasies to the the scary truth.

After 7 years, hope and change gave the people, the real scary truth.

-8 ( +1 / -9 )

He'll get my vote. Free religion rights shouldn't trump (no pun intended) common sense. Not even north korea are attacking people as often as Muslims, and we all know how crazy their leader is. Now remove said leader and replace with a book and brainwashing..... yeah, its much scarier.

0 ( +3 / -3 )

@stormcrow 9-11 was fluke. And even most of the terrorists on board tried to stop it once they found out it was a suicide mission. We won't see that happen again until 9-11 is totally forgotten by all. So while I can agree with most of what you wrote, pointing out 9-11 is a huge flaw. It was a lucky strike that won't be repeated, and that is why I never dwell on it.

Americans seriously need to get a handle on what is actually threatening their lives TODAY, and Islamic terrorism is way, WAY down the list. Diabetes is probably higher up.

-1 ( +2 / -3 )

Americans seriously need to get a handle on what is actually threatening their lives TODAY, and Islamic terrorism is way, WAY down the list.

The biggest terror incident on US soil since 9/11 and you say its way, way down the list? 9/11 was a lucky strike?

The FBI can prove beyond a reasonable doubt that Farook and Malik became radicalized and planned this terror attack. 9/11 was an intricate plot too, it wasn't no "lucky strike."

-1 ( +2 / -3 )

It's all well and good saying that more people are killed by cars than by Muslim terrorists, but the fact is that where Islam has a foothold, terrorism follows as surely as night follows day. In fact, I challenge anyone to disprove that this is not the case.

All Trump has done is go on record as to which way the wind is blowing.

-1 ( +2 / -3 )

@hydropower

I'm not sure I would call 9-11 a fluke but I respect your opinions on the matter. I mean if you're learning to fly a plane but not on how to land it, well, you'd have to be pretty slow not to be able to figure out what you're being trained for if killing the pilots and hijacking a plane is on your agenda, wouldn't you say? But you have also raised some valid and interesting questions in your post.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

please rise in the polls please rise in the polls please rise in the polls

-3 ( +3 / -6 )

This dialogue is just stupid. The man is now more or less openly advocating the creation of a fascist state in America in which the rule of law and the constitution will mean nothing - left or right this should be deeply disturbing to all Americans.

As for the severity of the threat, while the San Bernadino attack is the worst act of Islamic terrorism on US soil since 9/11, that really just shows how small the threat posed by Islamic radicals in the US actually is. There have been over 300 mass shootings (with 4 or more victims) in the US so far this year alone. Scrolling through the list I notice this is the only one whose perpetrators have Muslim sounding names, almost all the rest are pretty common Anglo-American sounding ones.

So since mass shootings are now considered terrorism (and I note that it is only now that Muslim people have carried out one that the idea that they do constitute a form of terrorism has seeped into the American discourse), it would seem to me you are more than 300 times more likely to be a victim of White American terrorism than you are of Islamic terrorism in the US.

If we follow the Trump logic that would mean we should register all white Americans and prevent all white Christians from entering the country. But since stirring up hatred based on overblown fears for political gain only works against minority groups, I guess he won`t be tabling any proposals like that.

3 ( +3 / -0 )

Obama (who said ISIS is "Contained") has now did 180, by saying in his recent speech, that ISIS is a major threat. So which is it?

please rise in the polls please rise in the polls please rise in the polls

For a President who won't even call it what it is- "radical islam" . . . nor admit that we're at war with islamic terrorism. please drop in the polls please drop in the polls please drop in the polls-

-2 ( +4 / -6 )

For those who think Trump is overreacting and a complete loser for suggesting a halt to Muslims entering in the USA based on their religion, I would like to present to you a particular place in the world where if you are not of a certain religion, you can't enter.

For those of you who are not Muslim, try to enter into Mecca. You can't. They even have signs on the highway that show the "Christian Bypass" which those who are not Muslim must use. Don't believe me, look it up yourselves, just telling you what was briefed to us in the military when we had to go to Saudi Arabia.

So his calling for a ban on Muslims entering the US is not too far fetched. Next time you fly into Narita, just for kicks put down that you have just recently traveled to any of the countries that they have listed where you may have to go through extra screening because of quarantine concerns.. Then tell me that Trump is not too far off.

0 ( +5 / -5 )

please rise in the polls please rise in the polls please rise in the polls

While you're frightening me with this thought, what if it backfired against the democratic candidate and this ass actually gets into the presidency? I wish I had a bomb shelter I could hide in for 4 years.

1 ( +3 / -2 )

"The proposed ban would apply to immigrants and visitors alike, a sweeping prohibition affecting all adherents of Islam who want to come to the U.S." This idea, though extreme, poses no threat to US citizens. It's just a time out to assess risks, risks that very few in power have to deal with. While the majority of Muslims are not violent, a significant portion of the violence against America comes from Muslims. Common sense dictates precautions are taken.

"The idea also raised immediate questions about whether it could pass muster under constitutional protections of the free exercise of religion." I think certain aspects of Islam exempt it from being labeled a religion; forcing women to wear veils, not allowing women the right to vote, drive, etc. I know there are different variations of Islam just as their are variation of Christianity, etc. but some aspects of Islam should not be allowed. Remember, it's not only freedom of religion, it's also freedom FROM religion.

-2 ( +0 / -2 )

For those of you who are not Muslim, try to enter into Mecca.

Right, so because one Islamic state bars non-Muslims from entering the most holy site in all of Islam, this totally justifies Trump saying Muslims shouldn`t be allowed in America at all?

A couple of things:

First, Saudi Arabia is a vile dictatorship, while America is a constitutional democracy. Why in god`s name would the latter want to look to the former for justification of its rules? Seems to me that a normal person would rationally want America to be less like Saudi Arabia, not more like it.

Second, despite all that, even Saudi Arabia doesnt actually have rules as draconian as what Trump has proposed. Non-muslims can enter the country, they just bar people from Mecca, a town which ones only purpose in visiting would be to conduct an Islamic pilgrimmage (not of much interest to non-Muslims) anyway. I`m not defending the rule, but a lot of non-Islamic holy sites have similar rules barring non-adherents.

It is telling though that you have to rely on a flawed comparison with Saudi Arabia to find some sort of precedent for what Trump is proposing, because no democratic country in the world has anything remotely like that. Either America is a constitutional democracy in which all are protected by the law, or it is a modern version of Nazi Germany, run by the alternate future version of Biff Tannen in Back to the Future 2. If Trump wins the Republican ticket, that is the choice Americans will be faced with next year.

1 ( +5 / -4 )

Remember, it's not only freedom of religion, it's also freedom FROM religion.

Exactly. The thousands & thousands of refugees in Germany, who have avoided deportation and are now roaming free, need not impose their islamic beliefs upon Germany and Europe.

After all PEGIDA has a right to hoot n' hollar about their own rights in their "own" country.

-1 ( +3 / -4 )

Trump is a louder, uglier (in the sense of repulsive, racist ideology), more honest version of your run-of-the-mill Republican today.

5 ( +8 / -3 )

I, Nandakandamanda, call for a penitent and complete shut-down of Trump's mouth.

It would be embarrassing if such a person were to be elected to high office in the USA.

1 ( +3 / -2 )

At least Trump is not afraid to say what the majority of Americans are thinking out loud and he will get the vote if he continues his rhetoric. The problem with America today is that everyone in politics is too afraid to say anything and lives will be lost because of it. Other countries around the world have much tighter visa and immigration policies and no one airs that information but blares the fact that the USA sounds like a racist country when in fact America is the most racially, politically and culturally diverse country on the face of this planet yet we are suffering because of it too. A little fascism isn't so bad for the home front in order to keep the bad guys at bay.

-4 ( +3 / -7 )

It would be embarrassing if such a person were to be elected to high office in the USA

I agree. It would. Yeah, he's a character all right.

The problem with America today is that everyone in politics is too afraid to say anything and lives will be lost because of it.

Yeah. Obama won't even call radical islam, radical islam.

Other countries around the world have much tighter visa and immigration policies and no one airs that information but blares the fact that the USA sounds like a racist country when in fact America is the most racially, politically and culturally diverse country on the face of this planet yet we are suffering because of it too.

Ohh . . . & how they keep coming.

A little fascism isn't so bad for the home front in order to keep the bad guys at bay.

Right. After all, it is still our country.

-8 ( +0 / -8 )

Obama (who said ISIS is "Contained") has now did 180, by saying in his recent speech, that ISIS is a major threat. So which is it?

Typical republican attitude. "Obama doesn't agree with me so he sucks". Obama changes opinion in line with republicans. "Obama changes his mind, so he sucks".

2 ( +5 / -3 )

So now (based on the above comments) the argument is that fascism is OK so long as it keeps the Muslims out?

Depressing. I sincerely hope the American people reject that viewpoint at the polls.

1 ( +3 / -2 )

At least Trump is not afraid to say what the majority of Americans are thinking out loud

It would be refreshing if what he was saying wasn't absolute crap. Instead he's just showing why he shouldn't be president.

Yeah. Obama won't even call radical islam, radical islam.

So? How exactly does that change anything?

0 ( +4 / -4 )

"So now (based on the above comments) the argument is that fascism is OK so long as it keeps the Muslims out?"

Nonsense post. Controlling borders and who enters the country is not fascism. I guarantee you if Nazis wanted to enter the US they would be turned back and I and the most of Americans would be happy to wave good-bye. Fascism would be rounding up all Muslims and putting them into camps and then deporting many of them like FDR did with Asians during WWII. (By the way, can anyone name the party FDR belonged to?). Fascism would be banning Islam from being practiced in the US. These things are not being suggested and will not happen.

-1 ( +1 / -2 )

Hawkeye, although what you say has bite to it, people everywhere are generally afraid of the unknown. It is easier just to say no. I feel sure that we need to learn in school about other religions and their beliefs, and even to search for common threads and values. The problem is how to make the unknown known, and in the process lose the fear. Information can give us insights and help understanding. Ultimately we are all, like it or not, involved in solving the radical and IS conundrum from the inside. Muslims are not the problem, and indeed they will surely hold much of the answer.

It is good that Trump is touching that raw nerve, in an overly PC world, but in the evolution of things his policy sounds primitive, non-inclusive and self-defeating.

0 ( +1 / -1 )

The USA used to be a nice place but it sucks now with all the politically and racially correct garbage being shoved in your face each day. All the foreigners say America is a free country, excuse me "where does it say that"?. My family is suffering because a country we built from scratch is being overrun by people of all faiths that use the insanely run US government to their advantage and force out the people that created this great country. When the USA goes under and Russia and China take over the world, I hope those idiots that complained about how bad the USA was, will understand that they made a big mistake. Personally I don't understand why people would want to leave the garden of Eden they have in the ME with all of it's trees, rivers and hanging gardens of Babylon to come to the USA and have to endure all the strange customs and problems they face when they do not want to assimilate into the Christian society they are invading. Please stay home and don't come here or complain, stay in your sandbox and deal with your own internal problems rather than running away and then complaining because the menu does not serve what you want to eat.

2 ( +7 / -5 )

Pretty much every time someone complains about 'an overly PC America', generally if you read their comments it means they are bothered that they cannot say something bigoted without being called out for it.

Sometimes PC may go to far, but not when it's stopping people from expressing bigotry.

-1 ( +4 / -5 )

Personally I don't understand why people would want to leave the garden of Eden they have in the ME with all of it's trees, rivers and hanging gardens of Babylon to come to the USA and have to endure all the strange customs

Me neither . . . they need to stay in Medina, Raqqa, Riyadh, Mogadishu. America is not for them. They just don't get it.

So? How exactly does that change anything?

Well for one, Obama should at least recognize there is a global problem called, "radical islam." Its up to him after that if any changes will occur. Doubt it, his time is up.

-3 ( +3 / -6 )

I have black neighbors, white neighbors, Japanese neighbors, Indian neighbors, Arabic neighbors, Hispanic neighbors, Pakistanis neighbors, Filipino neighbors and all of them try to assimilate into the American society that they moved into and do not try to say that they are different and wont be a part of this great country. The Muslim's are an exception to the rule and do not try to assimilate and that is the majority of their problem, not mine. I don't know where you are from but I think that you don't appreciate the problem and how vast it has become. Go on and post your rhetoric but go live in the USA in a middle class neighborhood, try to raise children and make a decent life and tell me that I am a bigot.

3 ( +6 / -3 )

You didn't answer the question.

1 ( +2 / -1 )

The Muslim's are an exception to the rule and do not try to assimilate and that is the majority of their problem, not mine.

Agree. I grew up with Blacks, Hispanics, Asians- No Problem. We got along well. We understand America. Muslims do not.

-1 ( +5 / -6 )

@samwatters

My post isn`t nonsense, two of the posts directly above it, which I was explicitly referring to, stated that fascism is OK.

To recap though: Trump is advocating the registering of Muslims already in the country and banning of entry of those outside. The Nazis did not start out in 1933 by rounding up all the Jews and putting them into gas chambers, rather they started out with exactly the same policies (registration and bans on entry) that Trump is advocating. If you think that once the country has started down that path and started ignoring the constitution and rule of law specifically in order to villify and persecute people based on their religion it will just stop for some reason short of rounding them up and putting them in camps then you are just being willfully blind to reality. The only thing stopping that from happening now is that you have a constitution protecting people from it, but those will have to be done away with if Trump is going to implement what he is saying. Once you`ve demolished the legal protections available and incentivized politicians to ratchet up the oppression every time a terrorist attack gives them an excuse to do so, there is not limit on the depravity the system you have chosen will permit.

A vote for Trump is a vote for a fascist America. That some posters here are simply nodding their heads in approval at that statement, feeling secure in the belief that it will protect them from Islamic terrrorists (who are about 300 times less likely to be the perpetrators of an attack in the US than white Christians are, but never mind the facts) is just insanity.

Well in the dictionary definition of the word "bigot" I admit that I am a bigot and cannot be free to accept all colors, faiths etc. except that my flavor of bigotry allows people to live, enjoy life and not have to put up with some foreign religion or group that is intolerant of western ways of life or religion. If you don't like the West then stay home and pound sand.

"black neighbors, white neighbors, Japanese neighbors, Indian neighbors, Arabic neighbors, Hispanic neighbors, Pakistanis neighbors, Filipino neighbors "

Your "Arabic neighbors,Pakistanis neighbors" are not Muslim ? Exactly from which countries Muslims comes from ? Or maybe you're talking about banning particular nationalities which would make more sense.

2 ( +3 / -1 )

My own experiences of living with Muslim neighbors and members of our community does not jive with your claims at all. I'll be honest, I'm pretty sceptical of both your claims.

This is my experience as well. I have met a lot of Muslim people, and lived side by side with them, in my life and never had any problems.

I suspect neither Hawkeye or Wc23232 have had actual problems with them either.

Islam IS fascism, don't you get it? Trump looks like a wet-nosed, kumbaya-singing, lentil-eating, tree-hugging, long-haired hippy in comparison to the faithful.

I consider myself broadly left wing, and Trump and I would not get along on a whole host of issues, but in this matter he is dead right. Never mind the Stars and Stripes or the Union Jack, the only flag you liberals would rally around is a white one. And even that has been raised up the mast from supine to craven, with all out captulation being hoisted into sight.

-1 ( +3 / -4 )

my flavor of bigotry allows people to live, enjoy life and not have to put up with some foreign religion or group that is intolerant of western ways of life or religion.

Yeah, that's what they said when turning back the German Jews back in WWII.

@ rainyday:

First, Saudi Arabia is a vile dictatorship, while America is a constitutional democracy. Why in god`s name would the latter want to look to the former for justification of its rules? Seems to me that a normal person would rationally want America to be less like Saudi Arabia, not more like it.

Yes Saudi Arabia is a dictatorship but it is their dictatorship. As others are keen to point out when US service members get in trouble in Japan and we compare notes to the judicial system, the constitution doesn't apply to any foreign person living in another country only to US citizens and within the boundaries of the US and territorial borders. Can we ban people of a certain religion from coming to the USA, from my understanding of the Constitution while it may not be PC yes we can. Can we ban US citizens from practicing a certain religion under the guise of law, no we can't because the Constitution protects them.

Could a US citizen who is a Muslim travel to a Muslim country if Trump's plan were into effect? Probably would be able to but they would be in the same predicament that many Cuban-Americans found themselves in when the USA had an embargo on Cuba or any other countries that we have had issues with in the past. Nothing can stop you from going, just may be hard to get back in.

So it is not too far fetched for a country to want to protect its borders and people by making such a rule. FYI, not only is it just Saudi Arabia with such draconian rules for non-Muslims not entering Mecca. From my Navy days, even if we were going no where near Mecca, while on liberty we were not allowed to display any other religious symbols (i.e. a necklace with a cross, etc) while in any part of the country. Same goes for places like Indonesia, where we have seen artists being banned from performing there because their acts are considered offensive to Islam. Try going to a place like Bangladesh and you will see the same thing.

Like it or not, nations have rules. If you are not from there, and don't like them, then don't go. I don't think Trump mentioned banning Islam or never allowing a Muslim to enter the USA, but until they (Islamic countries) and their fellow believers begin to get a grip on the more radical elements of their religion, then it is up to others to address and look out for the well being of those who may become targets.

-3 ( +1 / -4 )

Why don't people realise that IS / Daesh scumbags cheer when the actions of a few, acting in their name, provoke reactions like this? This is exactly the kind of division and islamophobia that they WANT to generate.

Trump has proven himself to be a useful idiot for this despicable group. Shame on him.

1 ( +5 / -4 )

Trump has proven himself to be a useful idiot for this despicable group. Shame on him.

@ frontandcentre: You misunderstand the who reasoning behind IS/Daesh. They are not concerned about how someone is made to look in US politics, when their most recent videos show them beheading people in Libya (a Muslim country) for being accused of practicing witchcraft. They are not being guided by what we in the West believe, but by their understanding of the Koran and their belief in spreading of Islam.

Trump didn't state we need to start rounding up Muslims or putting them in special camps, just those from foreign countries that what to come to the US need to be vetted, and screened. Show me where he says we need to forever stop the flow of people of Islam into the US and they should not be given any rights. He hasn't said that and the rest of the presidential contenders know that but just are too afraid to say other wise.

-1 ( +2 / -3 )

HonestDictator: While you're frightening me with this thought, what if it backfired against the democratic candidate and this ass actually gets into the presidency?

I'm just not worried Trump could be elected. I think there are enough Democrats and moderates to stop that, plus we'll have the non-radical Republicans on our side as well. For now, I'm happy with Trump being the face of the Republican party. Him staying high in the polls will define the party, and that's a massive black eye. And they did it to themselves.

What worries me is that Trump's statement is probably front page news around the world. Anytime an American talks about his pride in our multi-multiculturalism, the other party will just have to mention Trump's name. I think he will stay in their minds for a very long time.

Like it or not, nations have rules.

Yes, and I like American rules because (among other reasons) they don`t discriminate against people based on religion.

But what I am reading here is people basically saying America`s traditioinal rules should be scrapped and replaced with ones based on those in places like Saudi Arabia or Iran (only with an anti-muslim rather than pro--muslim bias).

2 ( +4 / -2 )

And there were more than 350 mass shootings so far this year. What was the religion of those perps?

Posters have been repeating 300+, 350+ mass shootings on the JT boards, lately, but:

Mass shootings in the U.S. this year? 353 — or 4, depending on your definition

" But what I am reading here is people basically saying America`s traditioinal rules should be scrapped and replaced with ones based on those in places like Saudi Arabia or Iran (only with an anti-muslim rather than pro--muslim bias). "

Ironically, Shariah laws like those in Saudi Arabia or Iran are the end result of unlimited islamic immigration. I agree it is a dilemma, but what to do want --- unlimited Western tolerance toward an ideology that wants to remove this tolerance, or an exception to said tolerance in order to survive?

Any "refugee" program from the Middle East should prioritize those groups that are persecuted there: Yazidis, Christians, Hindus, etc. And not the persecutors.

-1 ( +2 / -3 )

The US is in serious danger of PC'ing itself to cultural self annihilation like Western Europe.

-4 ( +2 / -6 )

But what I am reading here is people basically saying America`s traditioinal rules should be scrapped and replaced with ones based on those in places like Saudi Arabia or Iran (only with an anti-muslim rather than pro--muslim bias).

Seriously ? American lynch mobs like the hundreds of churches and mosques that have been burnt in the last few years in the Middle East and the many, many priests and parishioner that have been beheaded in a grotesque display of power and terror ?? There is no shortage of legislation throughout US history that has transgressed the Constitution and the rights given by it much worse than limiting immigration. It is the failure of Obama and his policies that is creating an atmosphere where the likes of Donald Trump can thrive.

-5 ( +1 / -6 )

Not sure how the Dems are any better. You like your blanket statements.

You like to criticise others' points of view without properly considering what they actually are. I prefer generalisation to straw man arguments.

Typical republican attitude. "Obama doesn't agree with me so he sucks".

No, Obama is just horrible because he only cares about ONE thing and that's himself...maybe his disastrous policies...or his party, not sure which order.....hmmmm..

Obama changes opinion in line with republicans. "Obama changes his mind, so he sucks".

I'm trying to think when Obama sat down and worked with Republicans on anything.

I'm just not worried Trump could be elected. I think there are enough Democrats and moderates to stop that, plus we'll have the non-radical Republicans on our side as well.

Sometimes when a dog is suffering you need to take it to the shed. How do you stop a juggernaut?

For now, I'm happy with Trump being the face of the Republican party. Him staying high in the polls will define the party, and that's a massive black eye. And they did it to themselves.

The way Obama has defined the Democratic party, the party of Chicken.... Or the party of ruining the country, being pc and apologetic for just being American?

What worries me is that Trump's statement is probably front page news around the world.

This is the problem that drives me crazy with libs! They worry too much with what the world thinks. Who cares what anyone thinks.

Anytime an American talks about his pride in our multi-multiculturalism, the other party will just have to mention Trump's name. I think he will stay in their minds for a very long time.

I'm already trying to get this presidents image out of my head.

-7 ( +2 / -9 )

but what to do want --- unlimited Western tolerance toward an ideology that wants to remove this tolerance, or an exception to said tolerance in order to survive?

No, obviously religious extremism needs to be stopped, but not making an amalgam of those practising a religion peacefully and its extremists would be a good start.

I agree it is too broad, too undefined, and even borderline dangerous but some of you people need to read The Art of the Deal. The demographics are really going to kick your ass over the next 10-20 years. You don't hear many younger people talking about the dangers of gays, Muslims, etc. or supporting segregation or separate but equal measures. Even the evil Sith lord Dick Cheney said Trump's idea “goes against everything we stand for and believe in”.

“Just put out a very important policy statement on the extraordinary influx of hatred & danger coming into our country. We must be vigilant!”

The level of hatred coming into our country, from the inside. From people like Trump and the ODS people. The struggle in American history is against this kind of crap. People know that the greatness of America, despite its definite and massive failures, is in its push toward a celebration of diversity. This land was made for you and me. That should be the national anthem.

To Trump: You ain't no American, bruv!

-3 ( +1 / -4 )

“Until we are able to determine and understand this problem and the dangerous threat it poses, our country cannot be the victims of horrendous attacks by people that believe only in jihad, and have no sense of reason or respect for human life,”

People are clutching their pearls and heading towards the fainting couch on only part of the speech that sensationalizes his plan, but they seem to miss out the part where he says this would be in place only until the US Representatives and agency and officials get their acts together to come up with a plan to better background check and find out the ones who want to do harm from the innocent just traveling. He never said ban them for all time and kick out those who are here. Heck we were all in a tizzy during the summer when the US was too afraid to enforce a travel ban for people coming from certain African countries because of the Ebola outbreak and people were up in arms on the inability of the US government to do something.

Slow down the influx and do better background checks. The female shooter applied for a K1 visa, and now we are learning that she attended a madrassa in Pakistan that is known for it's strict teachings of sharia Islam. Why wasn't that flagged? I've known guys in Japan who couldn't get their Japanese wives visas or green cards because they had some bush with the Japanese law in the past. So what he is saying is not too far fetched unless someone can come up with a better way to vet those who are coming in.

Even during the immigration into Ellis Island, people were turned away if they were sick. Just saying.

-5 ( +1 / -6 )

You've violated too many PC principles there, Alphaape. That's gonna save lots of lives but bars you from linking hands and dancing in the Strangerland - Madverts- Cheney daisy chain.

Heck we were all in a tizzy during the summer when the US was too afraid to enforce a travel ban for people coming from certain African countries because of the Ebola outbreak and people were up in arms on the inability of the US government to do something.

Please define "we" - many posters on JT responded to the crisis in a rational manner, as did the American government, which was not "afraid" to institute a useless and unnecessary travel ban but was sufficiently informed not to do so. How did that tizzy work out for you tizziests? - no travel ban, no deaths.

Please, 14 deaths is really a drop in the bucket of American gun carnage, yet some want to alienate a third of the world's population? Talk about being in a tizzy.

0 ( +1 / -1 )

Cheney has emerged from all this as the new champion of PC. From war criminal to liberals golden boy!

-2 ( +0 / -2 )

too many PC principles there

I keep reading 'PC' and wonder what it could mean to posters on this site. Does being PC mean you can't make hateful comments about a person because of their skin colour or religion, or that you can't use the ugly terms that are said to demean a person? Does being PC mean you can't make ugly comments about a person because of their physical disabilities? Does being PC mean you can't bully people you consider weaker or somehow lesser? Does being PC mean you think it's NOT OK to invade a nation to take its resources because your people have squandered theirs? Does being PC mean you'd rather try to negotiate for peace than start a war?

1 ( +2 / -1 )

@Strangerland

"So let's get this straight, you guys are saying that the Syrian refugees were the ones that flew the airliners into the twin towers"

Hilarious. No, but they were all Muslims and were motivated on spiritual grounds. Quite a coincidence, eh? 2 of the Paris attackers were Syrian refugees. But of course, they would never, ever think of attacking the US if they could, eh?

-1 ( +3 / -4 )

PTownsend - well, for example my friends in germanistan tell me they are afraid to voice ANY concern over the flood of refugees because it's not PC. And under the current PC reality there they can actually lose their jobs and be prosecuted for hate crimes.

-2 ( +0 / -2 )

Cheney has emerged from all this as the new champion of PC. From war criminal to liberals golden boy!

Not exactly. Notice that neither Bush nor Cheney have stepped foot out of the US since their terms ended unless specifically assured that they won't be arrested. And when Cheney becomes the voice of reason in your party, you know something is wrong - kinda like Charlie Sheen warning you that you're perhaps hitting the substances too hard.

A topic not discussed yet in this thread is what would happen if Trump were actually nominated by the GOP, and what would happen if he collapses. Really, at this point, which would be worse for the party? Any ideas?

1 ( +2 / -1 )

Not just the Sith Lord.

Lindsey Graham, Bernie Sanders, Jeb Bush, John Kasich, Chris Christie, Hillary Clinton, George Pataki, Marco Rubio and Jim Gilmore all slammed Trump's outrageous comments.

Heh, only slimy old Santorum Spreader couldn't quite manage to disown himself, but let's be fair here - everyone thought he'd dropped out months ago.

1 ( +3 / -2 )

He gets my vote.

-1 ( +3 / -4 )

Madverts, just hours before Trump's remarks and in response to Obama's speech, Rubio asked, "Where is there widespread evidence that we have a problem in America with discrimination against Muslims?"

Kinda ironic.

3 ( +3 / -0 )

Ironic indeed my friend.

Trump's hate speech will no doubt encourage more violence and damage to Muslims and their property in the US as we have already seen. The hate trolls can be proud of this achievement.

The Republican party may be coming out against their coke-head gone rogue; but they own the fact that America is beginning to tear itself apart at the seams thanks to the GOP's hate campaign and their continued poisonous discourse - all since an educated half-black man became president,

The longer this goes on the more self-inflicted wounds the GOP will receive. It's like a schizophrenic on acid with a combat knife and a selection of razorblades locked alone in a room. It would be priceless if the rhetoric wasn't so unspeakable.

4 ( +5 / -1 )

And you can thank your president for that for causing this racial divide in this country, bravo to the man that single-handedly pushed race relations back by 50 years.

Then I'm hoping your including Obama in that mix as well.

I keep reading 'PC' and wonder what it could mean to posters on this site.

To Hillary it means 'treason' apparently, at least that is the way she put it in an interview last weekend in response to Jerry Falwell's call for students to keep terrorists off campus -- he is "providing aid and comfort to the enemy." Which is totally rich given that he is not the one under serious investigation by the FBI for violating the Espionage Act by disseminating classified information in the official capacity as Secretary of State from an unsecured private server, which is pretty much a textbook definition of betraying your country. Not to mention covering up the role the Obama administration and the State Department played in the rise of ISIS. Glass houses, stones and all that...

-4 ( +0 / -4 )

The best way to promote radicalism and the EI. Congrats Donald for your total ignorance of the world!

0 ( +1 / -1 )

Great, samwaters. Over the past 40 plus years you were able to dig up a list of Muslim terror attacks spanning the entire world that cumulatively killed fewer people than the Christian Serb massacre of Muslims at Srebenica (to name but one example).

But yeah, totally makes sense to vilify all Muslims because of that and not the other way around.

2 ( +3 / -1 )

@Rainyday. I produced the list for two reasons. 1.) To counter your statement that "this is one mass shooting." 2.) To show that folks like you follow this pattern when folks like me express concerns about Islamic violence a.) deny it was Muslims, then b.) say it's a rare exception and finally c.) claim that other groups are (more) violent thereby insinuating we should do nothing to curb Islamic violence because d.) we are then bigots.

There is a certain sect of Islam that is barbaric and prone to violence and to be fair the majority of Muslims are peaceful and have nothing to do with ISIS and the like (Muslims in Malaysia, for example, have no recorded acts of terrorism) but a stoppage of Islamic tourists to the US for a period of time might be a good idea. Again, I am not supporting a rounding up of Muslims who are US citizens; I'm saying that a cooling off period is a good idea.

-6 ( +0 / -6 )

I kind of agree with him.

I'm getting tired of muslims getting offended about the slightest thing, and then going and murdering lots of people.

Looking at the photo of those two entering the airport at Chicago, I can't help but think... why on earth did they ever come to the West?

They can't have a beer. They can't enjoy Star Wars. They wouldn't keep a dog as a pet. They hate bacon... etc

They should have stayed in Saudi Arabia where they would be happy and live under wonderful sharia (or whatever it is) and she can walk around wrapped in black blankets.

The majority of mass shootings in the US are carried out by white male Christians.

Even the fire and brimstone Republican fundies are backing away from Trump's insanities.

But it's nice to see the hate brigade outing themselves indelibly on this one.

-1 ( +3 / -4 )

Here's how it gets interesting: Someone puts out an idea so outrageous it would not have been voiced even months ago, and then others pretending to be voices of reason chart a path between that and what was hitherto the sane, centrist, rational path, making the latter look leftist and what would a few months ago also have been outrageous look centrist.

I am not supporting a rounding up of Muslims who are US citizens; I'm saying that a cooling off period is a good idea.

Oh, how charitable of you. If this slide continues, your view might soon be considered coddling.

3 ( +5 / -2 )

But yeah, totally makes sense to vilify all Muslims because of that and not the other way around.

I don't think he was vilifying all Muslims. You libs like to extrapolate whatever you want to fit your narrative. If someone points out the acts of radical Islamists, then that must mean by default you are a Muslim hater. That's just pure nonesense! If you hate Obama that means, you are anti-Black? This is all so insane! You guys are always going to see what you want me to see.

-3 ( +3 / -6 )

Again, I am not supporting a rounding up of Muslims who are US citizens; I'm saying that a cooling off period is a good idea.

Why make any exceptions? You never know, some of the Muslims who are US citizens could be just as dangerous as the foreign ones. How about making them all wear crescent badges at all times, just to be extra safe, and then sending them all to concentration camps if that doesn't work out?

-3 ( +2 / -5 )

@Madverts. First, full disclosure; I am an atheist and have a hard time understanding why anyone would believe that virgins give birth to children or the dead come back to life. I have no tolerance for people who believe that it is OK to kill others because they have different beliefs from mine. I am pro-choice and suppport abortion during the first trimester but not after. I support the right to own guns in accordance with our constitution but also support background checks and believe people under psychological care should not own a firearm.

"A Christian terrorist attacked an abortion clinic just the other day." He was arrested, will be tried and likely put to death (as he should be). But at the same time no one is making excuses for him, offering that the killing of innocent babies may have "triggered" him to kill people and the abortion clinic killer has been used to demonize all people who use guns and even to demonize Christians and the Republican party. But so what? Are you suggesting we should allow equal access mass murdering? Why not cut down on mass killings when possible? One way to do so would be to reassess our visa policies.

"The majority of mass shootings in the US are carried out by white male Christians." So do you want the same number of shootings carried out by African-Americans, Hispanics, Asians? How about a quota of shootings from visitors to the US? Again, if we can cut down on the number of murders that would be a good thing, don't you agree?

"Even the fire and brimstone Republican fundies are backing away from Trump's insanities." I don't think wanting to prevent people who are likely to hurt you into the is insanity.

"But it's nice to see the hate brigade outing themselves indelibly on this one." Ah, the name calling! Read some of these posts----where is KC Japan, by the way!----from the Left and talk to me about hate.

Sam,

He was arrested, will be tried and likely put to death (as he should be). But at the same time no one is making excuses for him, offering that the killing of innocent babies may have "triggered" him to kill people and the abortion clinic killer has been used to demonize all people who use guns and even to demonize Christians and the Republican party.

Well gee Sam, that's because everyone has done their damnedest to deny it being a terrorist attack, and the Republican party that actually tipped this nutter over the edge with their constant obsession with abortions as per their own Chritian fundamentalism.

But so what? Are you suggesting we should allow equal access mass murdering? Why not cut down on mass killings when possible? One way to do so would be to reassess our visa policies.

What a load of rubbish. Mass murdering in the US is carried out in general by White. Male. Christians. Following your twisted logic Christians are the one's that should be denied entry to the US.

Ah, the name calling! Read some of these posts----where is KC Japan, by the way!----from the Left and talk to me about hate. This post will be deleted soon so read it while you can.

I'm calling it how it is. If you don't like that you should perhaps analyse your position which is the idiocy of supporting the Donald Trump Hate Brigade.

-2 ( +2 / -4 )

@Madverts. "Well gee Sam, that's because everyone has done their damnedest to deny it being a terrorist attack, and the Republican party that actually tipped this nutter over the edge with their constant obsession with abortions as per their own Chritian fundamentalism."

The Republican party doesn't tip anyone over the edge anymore than a disagreement at work suddenly radicalizes a Muslim. People are responsible for their actions; no ones "gets tipped." The abortion killer was a nut and should be treated as such. Same with the Bernadino shooter; no one made them go homocidal.

"What a load of rubbish. Mass murdering in the US is carried out in general by White. Male. Christians." I. agreed. with. you.

"Following your twisted logic Christians are the one's that should be denied entry to the US." No, I didn't communicate my point very well so I will try again; we have enough home grown nuts and they have the right to be there by vitrue of their citizenship but let's try not to import any others for a while.

"I'm calling it how it is. If you don't like that you should perhaps analyse your position which is the idiocy of supporting the Donald Trump Hate Brigade."

If I wrote that about you and people who support open borders and blame Muslim violence on others I would have the post deleted and possibly be barred from the site. But constant flogging breeds tough skin so I can take it.

-2 ( +2 / -4 )

Sam,

The Republican party tip people over the edge with their lies. Their damned lies. And their "Zombie Lies". Lies they repeat even knowing them to be false. Your boy Trump has achieved unprecedented success in his run for the GOP using this one and only technique.

And right now even the GOP Asylum are burning rubber to get away as fast as they can from your man's hate speech.

Kinda sez it all.

-1 ( +2 / -3 )

Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump called Monday for a “total and complete shutdown of Muslims entering the United States,”

Hey Donnie-boy, if you're going to blatantly ignore the 1st Amendment to the Constitution, how much of the REST of the Constitution are you going to ignore when it's convenient for you?

Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances.

Donnie-boy wants Congress to pass a law restricting an entire class of people from entering the country based solely on their religion. What does he think this is? Israel?

1 ( +3 / -2 )

This land was made for you and me. That should be the national anthem.

Sounds like something John Lennon would sing. He "Imagined" all the people. And nonsense like- there should not be borders.

People know that the greatness of America, despite its definite and massive failures, is in its push toward a celebration of diversity.

Okay, but at what cost? Seems like whatever we want to do, we (ordinary judeo-christians) americans are offending somebody:

"Don't report the middle-eastern neighbors, up in their garage all night. That's racial profiling."

"Don't celebrate our hometown hero's (who had served in the US Military) during the Half-time show when NFL or other pro sports feature them."

"Don't hoist an American Flag (on a college campus, on US soil- I should ad) because it might offend someone."

"Don't call it a Christmas Party." - "Don't say merry Christmas," instead use "Happy Holidays!" - it's a load of nonsense.

Don't buy into it.

-2 ( +3 / -5 )

Yeah, but John Lennons imagination extended onlly as far as the song. He didn't apply any of that stuff in his own life. Don't get me wrong - a musical genius along with Paul, but the myth is just that.

bass: Boy, are you in for a rude awakening! What gets me about libs is how they refuse to see the world how is, but see it as they want. Full of incense and peppermint candies

But bass....you are with us on the Trump issue. I know you don't agree with the right wingers here regarding banning all Muslims. You are going to have to make a choice very soon because you will eventually be seen as an enemy of your own party. So drop the war on liberals and stand up for what you believe in, which is speaking out against Trump and others on this board regarding the ban.

Dude. Bass knows what the heck he is talking about. Quit offering him the olive branch. There are lots of Republicans who agree, here & there and disagree, here & there with Trump. The beauty of his campaign is that he's really stirring up the pot and tailoring the political climate to his own advantage. Politics=Power.

-8 ( +0 / -8 )

Well gee Sam, that's because everyone has done their damnedest to deny it being a terrorist attack, and the Republican party that actually tipped this nutter over the edge with their constant obsession with abortions as per their own Chritian fundamentalism.

What? ROFL!!!! Sorry, first of all it was a terrorist attack. Second, No one is making any excuses for this guy. Third, The GOP didn't do anything, they are not the ones that support abortion, they didn't make the video. You guys just want the story buried. You guys harp on the GOP constantly about anything, in particular, you guys all still suffer from Bush syndrome. But I understand, you guys just want the right to just shut up and ignore all of it, but chastise conservatives on other issues.....like Trump making the comments he made the other day. Hypocrisy, geeeez!

What a load of rubbish. Mass murdering in the US is carried out in general by White. Male. Christians. Following your twisted logic Christians are the one's that should be denied entry to the US.

So what does that have anything to do with radical Jihadism? When you see Christian mass murderers, creating terror cells and having the NSA and the CIA declaring them a serious national security threat, then I will owe you an apology.

I'm calling it how it is. If you don't like that you should perhaps analyse your position which is the idiocy of supporting the Donald Trump Hate Brigade.

No, I think you liberals and all the Democrats are really scared now. That's how I see it.

The Republican party tip people over the edge with their lies.

Where were you over the last 7 years condemning Obama for his daily lies? The man lies so much, it's expected at this point when he says something, everyone is like....yawn, so now what?

Their damned lies. And their "Zombie Lies". Lies they repeat even knowing them to be false. Your boy Trump has achieved unprecedented success in his run for the GOP using this one and only technique.

Obama did the exact same thing 7 years ago. He lied through his teeth, the people ate it up, he got elected. Trump is doing the same thing and now liberals are crying foul?? Welcome to my world.

And right now even the GOP Asylum are burning rubber to get away as fast as they can from your man's hate speech.

But he'll bounce back, just like Cheney. You can't keep a good man down.

you are with us on the Trump issue. I know you don't agree with the right wingers here regarding banning all Muslims.

True, I do not.

You are going to have to make a choice very soon because you will eventually be seen as an enemy of your own party.

I am not a Republican. So I really don't have to worry. Besides, I would never pass their purity test as a hardcore Republican.

So drop the war on liberals and stand up for what you believe in, which is speaking out against Trump and others on this board regarding the ban.

Trust me, I do. But having said that, you need to understand, like Trump or not, he looks like he is going to be the nominee and you need to take him serious and not blow him off, that would be a very bad thing to do, to underestimate the guy. I'm not a Trump supporter, but I understand the allure and when you look at Trump and Obama side by side, Trump looks stronger, more decisive and more assuring and Obama is, stay the course, don't worry, we won't change policy towards ISIS and radical Jihadism. Not enough for the people and as OBL once said, people always go for the stronger horse and sad to admit, but Trump is looking like that strong presidential steed. And again, these comments would drop his numbers, nothing does at this point, but how long that will last, you never know.

I'm just not worried Trump could be elected.

Trump getting elected? Highly doubtful. Republicans need about 40% of the Latino vote to win.

Trump is polling at 8%. Those are mostly Cuban Americans.

Even better, because Trump is pissing off Mexican Americans, he is serioulsy damaging the Republican brand. Rubio and Cruz (both Latin surnamed) currently pole under 20%. Even better, Trump's race baiting makes it more likely for Latinos to turn out and vote against him. Latinos tend -- because of age, poverty and culture -- to not participate in voting enough. Heck, if Latinos voted at the same rate as Anglos, Texas would be a blue state! Its true.

So, yeah, I really, really, really, hope Trump gets the nomination. It would be a total landslide for Team Democrat.

Trump is by far the greatest gift for a a better tomorrow than even he knows.

True, but Whites still make up the majority of the overall voting block and as long as Trump can get 42% of the angry White vote and peel off some of the Black vote, which now you are seeing many do, because a large section of them are angry disgruntled and feel betrayed by this president. Also, Trump does well with married women, so there is a very good chance he can still pull this off if he were to become the nominee.

Texas would be a blue state! Its true.

That's like saying, North Korea will become a capitalist nation.

So, yeah, I really, really, really, hope Trump gets the nomination. It would be a total landslide for Team Democrat.

Right and we heard that exact same talk in 2010 and last November. There is NO WAY the GOP will retake the House or the Senate..... Never underestimate the power of estimation.

Trump is by far the greatest gift for a a better tomorrow than even he knows.

If that means electing Hillary, then the country is officially screwed beyond all hope. But given the current climate in the country, I think Hillary with her dovish comments disqualified her.

The group with the highest percentage of hate crime experiences in The US are Jews with about 55%. Muslims are at 16%. So no there isn`t a major problem with Muslims experiencing hate crime. Should there be more assistance for Jews?

Trump is right. Door needs to be closed for a while. For decades, tens of millions of immigrants have come to western nations for a better life. Those nations have been 'plenty generous'. Sometimes the door has to be closed when things get out of hand.

-2 ( +1 / -3 )

Trump is right. Door needs to be closed for a while.

So... applying this "some Muslims commit terrorist acts so all foreign Muslims should be barred from visiting the US" logic to other situations, should all guns be banned too? Most gun owners may be decent, law-abiding citizens but some go out on shooting sprees, maybe best take them all away until the politicians have, as Trump put it, worked out what's going on there. Perhaps similar measures need to be taken about Catholic priests too - they're not all child molesters, but it might be a good idea to put them all on sex offenders registers just to be on the safe side.

See, once you get started with this delusional nonsense, where does it ever end?

1 ( +1 / -0 )

You don't get it. America is and always has been a white Christian country for white Christian men. America has always supported complete economic freedom, has always been just, right and good. Slaves were economic immigrants, and Indians don't count.

BREAKING: Trump calls for total ban on Arabic numerals in the US.

"in MDCCLXXVI, The Founding Fathers didn’t need them when they invented America — which was great, by the way," Trump proclaimed. "And we’re gonna make it great again!"

He explained:

"All these numbers do is encourage these Moslems; y'know how those people think: they see their numbers everywhere think it’s Sharif Law that we have to use them. Also, they take theirnumbers and they use them as codes, and that’s how they talk to ISIS on the internet, and we’re gonna have to take a look at the internet, by the way."

There is a major problem with this comment. It points out the illogicality of people being able to be bigoted against brown people. As such, they will never accept it as logical, since doing so would stop them from being able to be prejudiced against the brownies.

-1 ( +2 / -3 )

BREAKING: Trump calls for total ban on Arabic numerals in the US.

Even Trump knows that comment will just make people fall out of their chairs with laughter.

"in MDCCLXXVI, The Founding Fathers didn’t need them when they invented America — which was great, by the way," Trump proclaimed. "And we’re gonna make it great again!"

Funny, when Obama says we are safe, the people panic, when Trump says, we're gonna make it great again, people listen. I think the problem is all about the messenger and less the message.

What can anyone say to that? Even I have to laugh at that.

Strangerland

Right wing pig-ignorant bigots are right wing pig-ignorant bigots. That is what makes them right wing pig ignorant bigots. From Wallace in '72 they had to be coy. Since Obama's election, they've gradually shed their coyness. Starting with Palin and her know-nothing nativist schtick, the meaning "taking back their country" is becoming clearer and clearer: take it back from the blacks, the browns, the Jews, and their emasculated white male and overly masculine white female enablers and allies.

Trump is blowing it all up. And I'm loving it.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

What can anyone say to that?

Um... that you're supposed to, because it's... you know, satire? Or hadn't you worked that out?

0 ( +2 / -2 )

I think if liberals would worry more about the fears and anxieties of the people instead of looking down on them and thinking that being a liberal and a supposedly, "know it all" will calm the general public, you guys are so sadly mistaken. The disbelief that the people have in speeches that have very little merit and that constantly have sentences that say over and over again, "we're better than that" really doesn't install calm, safety and trust in the hearts in most Americans.

-2 ( +3 / -5 )

I think if liberals would worry more about the fears and anxieties of the people instead of looking down on them

When their fears are bigoted, unjustified, and call for actions that are extremely disproportionate to the problem, sometimes you just need to tell people to stop being idiots, rather than pandering to their illogical insecurities.

If the scared people really wanted to help Americans, they would be lobbying for gun control, not lobbying for banning Muslims. The fact that they are doing the latter rather than the former shows that for one, they don't actually care about American lives, and two, that they aren't smart enough to keep from falling into the fear they are sold into by their people.

0 ( +1 / -1 )

@Strangerland,

You should specify exactly what is bigoted.

1 ( +3 / -2 )

Discriminating against 1.5 billion people due to the actions of 0.000000001% of them.

-1 ( +4 / -5 )

Trump is not speaking for all conservatives, at the same time, thousands of Americans, regardless of their political affiliation and quietly do agree with him, they just won't come out into the open and say it.

-2 ( +3 / -5 )

Trump's hate speech will no doubt encourage more violence and damage to Muslims and their property in the US as we have already seen. The hate trolls can be proud of this achievement.

Ohh . . but the hate speech and radical body of doctrine spewing from ISIS leadership, reaching Farook & Tashfeen, has just recently caused innocent americans (from San Bernardino) to be victims of the "worst" violence on US soil since 9/11.

The libs can easily look the other way regarding these achievements.

-5 ( +1 / -6 )

Discriminating against 1.5 billion people due to the actions of 0.000000001% of them

Its a bit more complicated than that.

You know I despise Trump and his fans. One necessary ingredient in their ideology is oversimplification. Well, its not the actions of a small percent of Muslims that is the problem.

It is the attitudes of the majority of Muslims in many countries, who, most simply put reject liberalism (as in Locke), secularism and religious tolerance

See here for some very disturbing data:

There. I fixed it. If you meant to say the worst TERRORISM-related violence, then that would be the Boston Marathon bombing (6 dead, 280 injured).

1 ( +1 / -0 )

Ohh . . but the hate speech and radical body of doctrine spewing from ISIS leadership, reaching Farook & Tashfeen, has just recently caused innocent americans (from San Bernardino) to be victims of the "worst" violence on US soil since 9/11.

They're violent, dangerous people who are generally the products of cultures where poverty, ignorance, oppression and brutality tend to be commonplace, not helped much by the fact that western powers have long supported regimes that keep them that way, e.g. America's best pals in the middle east except for the Israelis, the House of Saud. I can understand but not excuse them for talking like fascist lunatics. What's Trump's excuse, other than being a rich loudmouth?

1 ( +1 / -0 )

@Strangerland,

You are unfortunately a sound bite/blanket statement kinda individual. No discrimination at all. Many studies have shown that of Muslims up to 10% and even higher are are radical. So you are telling me that 160 million radicals (Almost five times Canadas population) are not a concern and the doors should be wide open? No way. The governments procedures just can`t be trusted. As we saw last week. 1000 cases in all 50 states are being investigated by the FBI and about 50 are serious and are under 24hr surveillance.

Atm, it is best to close the borders. Trump is far from racist, fascist and all the other silly insults. It`s not a race issue it is a security one.

Blows my mind that Americans go crazy for Trump wanting to get the security and safety of The US in order but they don`t give a rats ass about being spied on by the NSA, a program that was started without the knowledge of the people to begin with.

-3 ( +0 / -3 )

You are unfortunately a sound bite/blanket statement kinda individual.

Only insofar as I say things that others would like to use as sound bites.

Ignoring the fact that the numbers you posted are highly suspect, no, that's not what I said. Now if you're done condemning me for something I didn't say, maybe you could go back and take a look at what I actually did say.

Atm, it is best to close the borders.

And stop America from being what made it great, while doing so.

2 ( +2 / -0 )

What made America great was hard working blue collar workers not illegal immigrants and thugs.

So you have nothing to say about the NSA? Spying on Americans is completely fine but don`t vet refugees with too fine of a comb?

I haven't said either of those things.

Trump, like all conspiracy theories would soon cease to exist if politicians would just be clear. We need policies, not popularists, like the ones we've so often seen in the White House. For sure Trump is wrong. He's also telling us the WH hasn't done its job to make things safe inside the USA. Even Muslims at home and around the world must take a stand and condemn evil and wrong as evil and wrong. It's not about saving face or protecting one's faith anymore. Terrorists are not of one's faith. They use the mask of faith to practice evil.

1 ( +1 / -0 )

That's funny they call Trump unhinged, crazy, racist and a Muslim hater. Yet Jimmy Carter did same thing to the Iranian Muslims for national security. Oh yeah Jimmy was a Democrat so it's ok if they do that.

-2 ( +0 / -2 )

I LOVE the last part of the statement. "UNTIL we can figure what IS GOING ON?" What the HELL does THAT mean? And how can this peabrain figure out simple math much less complex issues involving religion, psychology, sociology? I SMELL concentration camps for "undesirables" within six months of his presidency. First muslims, then for muslim sympathisers, then for anyone who dares criticises him, then he will start on the Chinese. CAN'T FORGET THEM! Could be spies. We will imprison them until "WE CAN FIGURE What the HELL is going on!" you know. And you know what. The tea baggers and half of the repugs will support him on this. And to think! This is merely the beginning. STOCK UP ON YOUR FOOD NOW!

1 ( +1 / -0 )

Many studies have shown that of Muslims up to 10% and even higher are are radical. So you are telling me that 160 million radicals (Almost five times Canadas population) are not a concern and the doors should be wide open?

"Many"? Name them. I tend to disbelieve people when they throw around statistics and make no attempt to support them. When they DO try to support them, the source either doesn't say what was claimed they said, or the source's source for the numbers is not saying what the source claims. I see this every week in the local newspaper's "Fact Checker" column and BOTH political parties here equally fall into this trap.

But for now, let's go with your supposed "facts". If 10% of all Muslims are radicalized, and that 10% constitutes 160 million people on the face of the Earth, then that means 90% of all Muslims are NOT radicalized and constitute 1 BILLION, 440 million people on the face of the Earth. You want to prevent almost one and a half billion people from entering the U.S. when they have nothing to do with the radicals. If you want to quake in your boots in fear, that's your decision, but don't try to mess up MY country because of your fear.

0 ( +2 / -2 )

It will be an interesting debate of Trump vs. Hillary. How will Hillary respond when Trump says:

"All Mexicans are rapists" "All Muslims entering the USA are terrorists" "Obama was born in Kenya and he faked his degree" "I am a very successful corporate executive who consistently made big returns for my investors"

I can't wait for that entertainment.

1 ( +1 / -0 )

A group of US friends in Japan long term all say that if Trump is elected president, they will dump their naturalize and dump their US citizenship. The US that they knew and loved from 25 years ago is gone. They are even very disturbed that Trump is getting so much support.

As an ex-Muslim who escaped that cult, trump cutting down on the number of Muslims coming from non secular countries is a smart move. There are constant attacks from Muslims and they do not believe in freedom of religion or expression... Gays are still being killed in their communities. When I was a Muslim, I was taught to hate non believers and not respect the constitution... I was told that sharia law was best etc... If they allow too many Muslims to enter the USA, there will be sharia zones and more honor killings. And if we resist then they would fight back by saying it's racist... Even if religion is not a race lol wake up and stop being so pc that you ignore common sense.

"too many Muslims"

Is 6 or 7 million too many? That will happen soon in the USA. What is "too many"? It makes a connotation like eating "too many" calories.

You make a good point for Muslim refugees coming to the USA. Glad it worked for you and it's proof it will work for other Muslims escaping their fates of death or worse.

Sorry, I meant to write that some US friends would "naturalize and dump their US citizenship" if Trump is elected.

I always wondered what George Carlin would have said about all this.
