“I am willing to pay more, and you know what, the wealthy are willing to pay more,” Trump told ABC’s “This Week.”

LOL... the wealthy are willing to pay more.... LOL.....

Worldwide the worm has turned I'm afraid, and the wealthy and powerful are thankfully starting to come under more scrutiny now that the likes of the 'trickle down' theory has been well and truly discredited. Those that actively seek to evade paying their fair share of taxes should be brought to account.

9 ( +12 / -3 )

He said the points in his tax plan he's most intent on keeping are tax cuts for the middle class and businesses -- particularly those that have refused to bring profits earned overseas back into the United States. He'd like his plan to incentivize them to return the profit to the U.S.

Trump is being realistic that after negotiating with Congress that is where the rates will end up but he has been talking about using tax incentives for the wealthy to invest in important industries for 25 or 30 years.

-5 ( +2 / -7 )

He'd like his plan to incentivize them to return the profit to the U.S.

I wonder if he's considered how they would get the profit past his wall around Amerika.

-1 ( +4 / -5 )

Nice to see Trump challenge the current GOP establishment on this, so I won't get in his way.

“I don’t know how people make it on $7.25 an hour,” Trump said of the current federal minimum wage.

Dare I say I agree with him again? It's nice to hear someone speaking to Republicans in ways that haven't been done in the past. My guess is whether the wage is livable or not is never part of the GOP conversation since it always begins with "No." Trump just changed that.

Republican U.S. Senator Jeff Flake of Arizona also is undecided about Trump.

Flake rocks sometimes. He was one of the people who crafted the bipartisan immigration bill and he also supported rapprochement with Cuba. I'm glad he's in my state.

Overall I give the GOP 4.5/5 stars on this article, would recommend.

8 ( +9 / -1 )

I wonder if he's considered how they would get the profit past his wall around Amerika

Yeah, that could be a problem. Especially since everybody knows that big American businesses use illegal immigrants to carry their money.

“The middle class has to be protected,” Trump told NBC. The rich are “probably going to end up paying more,” he said.

If I were a right-wing conservative who had been really vocal about getting behind Trump I'd be feeling pretty stupid right around now.

WASHINGTON — U.S. Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump said on Sunday he was open to raising taxes on the rich, backing off his prior proposal to reduce taxes on all Americans and breaking with one of his party’s core policies dating back to the 1990s.

Hey! The GOP/Tea "Truth Teller" is back on TV!

When is the network canceling this show?

After: "I'M Trump, I'm Amazing!" the catch phrases never end.

-3 ( +3 / -6 )

See? Trump really IS a progressive! No need for Bernie now, and certainly no need for Hillary! The 1% may not like it, but the 99% will love it!

Some statement about Americans.

They want some jackass billionaire lying to them about something he hasn't the slightest idea about?

What is this, Trump's new TV Show: "Jackass Island?"

It must have been drowned out by the verbal diarrhea of misogyny, bigotry, and idiocy that was coming out of his mouth at the same time.

Trump interviewed the wealthy and a majority begged him to pay more taxes? Stop the dang presses!

0 ( +3 / -3 )

Can't tell the players without a scorecard! This is where we are as of Monday morning: The last two Republican presidents (George Bush I and II) and the last Republican presidential nominee (Mitt Romney) have all rejected Trump, but the last Republican vice president (Dick Cheney) is supporting him. The current Speaker of the House and last Republican vice presidential nominee (Ryan) is withholding support for now, while the previous vice presidential nominee (Palin) is trying to end his political career because of that, and her running mate in 2008 (McCain) seems to be offering as lukewarm a Trump endorsement as is humanly possible. Meanwhile the last Republican presidential candidate to face off against a Clinton, Bob Dole, has apparently gone Trumpian.

2 ( +2 / -0 )

And Trump is battling his 2008 self over whether or not Bill Cinton's impeachment was bogus.

2 ( +2 / -0 )

“I am willing to pay more, and you know what, the wealthy are willing to pay more,” Trump told ABC’s “This Week.”

YEAH!

The Rich have been begging Trump to THEM how to pay more taxes and thank him for the incredible help robbing their billionaire neighbors of three estancia on the Med. 'Oh, You Trump!'

the question is "who are considered the wealthy"? I believe most people would agree $1mm+ household income is wealthyt but how about $500k? i believe that its $250k combined household income right now which allows for a decent life but not what i would consider wealthy.

A more convincing lie would be something along the lines of "I'm a sparkly vampire who rides a unicorn to work every day." What he really means is that he's open to raising taxes on the poor and giving that extra money to the wealthy.

2 ( +3 / -1 )

It must have been drowned out by the verbal diarrhea of misogyny, bigotry, and idiocy

LoL. And likewise, the anti-Trumpers spew their verbal diarrhea and hatred at free speech. Heck, they even take it a step further by vandalizing marked police vehicles, attacking innocent motorists and trying to incite riots at the Trump rallies.

Stay classy anti-Trumpers.

-6 ( +3 / -8 )

Believe it or not, if the maximum amount of taxes the feds can charge is 39% of income tax I'm against raising this. I think more should be focused on making sure the wealthy just pay those taxes in the first place as many of them have been exploiting the loop holes to try and pay less than that amount. I think corporate taxes should be put at a reasonable rate to encourage more companies to plant businesses in the US, but those that make the most money out of those businesses like CEOs etc should have to pay the proper amount of taxes that they get as a benefit of the gross amounts of income they make from it.

Also the flat tax rate idea many have touted wouldn't work because some folks would be forced into income tax brackets that they'd be unable to keep up with. Inflation is also a major problem. It can't be too high and it can't be too low.

2 ( +2 / -0 )

In terms of affordability, the rich definitely have the ability to pay more in taxes and still have disposable income to spare.

It's the middle-class which is being squeezed by the rising costs of food, shelter (own or rent), healthcare, transportation, etc. Their disposable income has not recovered from the economic recession of 2008.

4 ( +4 / -0 )

How about less government spending and control. Politicians don't understand what that means.

1 ( +1 / -0 )

I can't wait to hear the conservative response. I'm pretty excited about the whole thing, to be honest with you.

I'm not surprised. I never thought Trump was a real conservative, but still when you think about having him over Hillary, it's not a difficult choice to decide that having Hillary would be like taking a trip on the Hindenburg.

Can't be worse than the disaster we're going through now and that includes internationally.

-12 ( +1 / -13 )

i don’t know how people make it on $7.25 an hour,”

Good to see someone addressing the elephant in the room, and good on trump for saying it out loud. Re "who's gonna pay for a rise" i actually believe the rich are willing to pay more taxes provided their money is used wisely.

Like most taxpayers i don't mind paying 'more' taxes if a/i dont feel am being shafted while others are laughing, b/ i know and agree with how/on what my money's going to be spent.

Be honest, fair and transparent and people will say fine. They are just tired of being lied to and feeling shafted while a few worm their way from tax loopholes to tax heavens.

You should run then if you have all the answers.

$500k? Wealthy?

$500k is ten times current median annual income for an American household at $52,000.

Umm... Yeah, that's wealthy.

Something that always make me scratch my head was hearing folks making $500k per year who bleated, "I need tax relief!"

What in the world does someone making half a million dollars a year need relief from exactly?

5 ( +5 / -0 )

I never thought Trump was a real conservative, but still when you think about having him over Hillary, it's not a difficult choice to decide that having Hillary would be like taking a trip on the Hindenburg.

Funny, I would have said having Trump is like taking a trip on the Hindenburg. When you examine the fiscal policies he has proposed, they will tank the US economy in less than two years.

$500k is ten times current median annual income for an American household at $52,000.

Even $250k is wealthy. No one needs tax relief at that income.

5 ( +6 / -1 )

Funny, I would have said having Trump is like taking a trip on the Hindenburg. When you examine the fiscal policies he has proposed, they will tank the US economy in less than two years.

Trump has a record of building things, created thousands of jobs. Obama has created a giant dependent class of people 46 million on food stamps, repetitive low wage jobs, doesn't have a building in his name, didn't create anything, but debt $19 Trillion and the Tyrant is not even close to slowing down.

-11 ( +2 / -13 )

Trump has a record of building things, created thousands of jobs.

And? How does that change the fact that his proposed fiscal policies will collapse the American economy within two years?

You also seem to have forgotten that alongside his record of building things, he has a record of going bankrupt.

And finally you brought in Obama, who has nothing to do with Trump whatsoever.

8 ( +9 / -1 )

Well, let's go back to the Clinton's era, and ask what the deficit was when they were in office. Oh. Remember now? Here's something else to remember. All the hot button issues are distractions. It's all about regulation verus deregulation. It has been for decades. Oh, and another thing. What does the republican health care plan look like? Plenty of time to work on their version. Should pretty much have it ready for us by now, no?

2 ( +2 / -0 )

and another thing. What does the republican health care plan look like?

Trump has already stated his plan for health care. He plans to repeal the ACA (Obamacare).

bass4funkMAY. 09, 2016 - 03:47PM JSTTrump has a record of building things, created thousands of jobs. Obama has created a giant dependent class of people 46 million on food stamps, repetitive low wage jobs, doesn't have a building in his name, didn't create anything, but debt $19 Trillion and the Tyrant is not even close to slowing down.

The only difference is that Trump puts his name on his companies, which means many people associate with him. Trump was forced to file for bankruptcy four times. Trump was personally responsible for the failures of these businesses. Obama only inherited the problem from Bush.

2 ( +3 / -1 )

How long until the Republican party is unified?

Sounds like a big never. The party leadership is all about low taxes on the rich. They want to keep their low dividend and capital gains rates while their secretaries pay more tax as a proportion of their income. Mitt Romney doesn't like it. Paul Ryann doesn't like it. They are trying to pull Trump's chain to get their agendas put forward.

A quote from CNN: the anxious party leadership has grown so out of touch with the electorate that it's missing the genuine anger fueling Trump's rise.

Trump has a record of building things, created thousands of jobs.

Trumph has a record of bilking investors. Those jobs came from the investors whose money was never returned. Trumph is only a manufactured name brand, and Donald is nothing short of a high-stakes con man. His family's real name is Drumph. #MakeDonaldDrumphAgain

3 ( +3 / -0 )

The reason the Republican party cannot be unified, is that it has formed on a dual-track policy. One is fiscal responsibility, and the other is based on morals. The people with the (so called) morals have become so extreme though, that they have enabled a lot of those who supported them for their fiscal policies. Unless the (so called) morals can reign in their ridiculousness, the party cannot be unified.

The real solution is to split the Republicans up into two parties - one that is based in fiscal responsibility, and the other that is based on promoting (so called) morals.

Broken Clock Syndrome. Nothing to see here.

Trump's now had more positions than several of Prince's one night stands.

Seriously, he's starting to make Mitt Romney look like a man of conviction. Heh, yet the rubes supporting him still haven't realised he's only saying the things people want to hear. Scary stuff.

No matter what happens, Donald Trump has destroyed the Republican party. For that he at least deserves some thanks.

4 ( +4 / -0 )

Hillary and Sanders are for raising minimum wage. What kind of income is considered federal level of wealthy income?

Yes, a one-party state is the way to go, isn't it? Makes it easier to crush dissent.

-1 ( +2 / -3 )

I can't wait to hear the conservative response.

They will probably believe he is for cutting taxes by closing loopholes and raising rates which is absurd, but Trump keeps jumping back and forth between "believing" in an increase for the wealthy and blaming it on "negotiating" with Democrats probably because he is appealing to a much wider coalition of voters than Hillary.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

CommanteerMAY. 09, 2016 - 06:16PM JST Yes, a one-party state is the way to go, isn't it? Makes it easier to crush dissent.

Meanwhile Hillary is a career criminal who operates a "charity" both as a slush fund and as a money laundering operation. You can probably throw in tax evasion, influence peddling and fraud. Trump needs to hammer away on this more than anything,

The Wall Street analyst who uncovered financial discrepancies at General Electric before its stock crashed in 2008 claims the Bill, Hillary, and Chelsea Clinton Foundation has a number of irregularities in its tax records and could be violating state laws.

Charles Ortel, a longtime financial adviser, said he has spent the past 15 months digging into the Clinton Foundation’s public records, federal and state-level tax filings, and donor disclosures. That includes records from the foundation’s many offshoots—including the Clinton Health Access Initiative and the Clinton Global Initiative—as well as its foreign subsidiaries.

Someone's living in a bubble.

2 ( +3 / -1 )

Charles Ortel publishes mostly in the Washington Times, a propaganda mouthpiece owned by the Unification Church (aka, "the Moonies"). Not to say that he's wrong, but considering any credible evidence of your assertions would guarantee immortality to any reporter able to expose this, the idea that only some partisan hack could do so would indicate a vast media conspiracy to protect the Clintons dwarfing that alleged of scientists and global warming.

Keep on dreamin', though.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

And? How does that change the fact that his proposed fiscal policies will collapse the American economy within two years?

You don't know that because he wasn't even elected yet, but now that you mention it, looking at Hilary's record as a former Senator and Secretary of State and her waffling on every issue and knowing how partisan she is and wants to carry on the Tyrants legacy, there is VERY good and promising indication that Hillary will drive us financially over the cliff.

You also seem to have forgotten that alongside his record of building things, he has a record of going bankrupt.

Not more than a lot of other people, I don't see him hurting for cash. I wish Obama would have done the same with the banks.

And finally you brought in Obama, who has nothing to do with Trump whatsoever.

His policies do, very much so.

Trump was personally responsible for the failures of these businesses. Obama only inherited the problem from Bush.

And who's going to fix Obama's financial debt? Spent more money than all the presidents combined and we have to go through 4 more years of that with Hillary???

It is true that nothing about the Clinton Foundation looks the way a genuine charity should look, from its donors to its expenditures basically providing another way for the Clintons’ longtime political donors to support the family’s endeavors between election campaigns with much of the money coming from unregulated donors overseas -- technically a public not private philanthropic organization. But legitimate concerns about its ethos, governance, management, fundraising, reporting, etc have been around since the beginning, most recently from analysis by the Washington Post and nonpartisan Soros funded Sunlight Foundation fellow Bill Allison among others, in addition to Ortel, so we will see what the FBI turns up, eventually.

You don't know that because he wasn't even elected yet

Everything in his fiscal policy, and for that matter, most of his other policies as well, will cause trade disputes and uncertainty in the market. And if there is one thing that makes investors panic it's uncertainty in the markets. And you know what happens when investors panic? The stock market collapses. And you know what happens when the stock market collapses? The economy collapses.

You don't need to be a fiscal genius to understand this. You just need a basic understanding of the markets and how they work, and then you need to listen to what he says.

Not more than a lot of other people

Very, very few people have multiple bankruptcies under their belt. So yes, he does have more than a lot of other people. He has more than almost all other people.

And that's ignoring the fact that he wants to run America - are you ok with him bankrupting the country once or twice as long as he springs back afterwards?

Trump is a demagogic opportunist exploiting a divided America. Why are Republican voters choosing as their standard-bearer a man who preaches hatred and spews vitriol? Republicans are embracing a man who shows bigotry toward racial and religious minorities, immigrants and women.

If you look at Trump's positions as opening negotiating positions he is actually in a great position to deal for what he wants. They may hurt the US if implemented in their entirety, but they are going to hurt other countries more. There are no positions written in stone, as he has just admitted himself with the tax plan. This is the sad truth about the left wing Democrats trying to pin him and box him it. Learn by this. He puts stuff out there to see if it sticks. It is hilarious if you think that a man who negotiates gives up his leverage. Paint it anyway you like, that is the truth.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Trump needs to study Acctg 101. Then he can recreate his tax plan. And then he eight be able to define what kind of income is wealthy. Not people whose family income is only $120.000 a year as a table game dealer in his casino..

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Trump repeatedly said his tax plan would ultimately be “negotiated” with Congress. After that negotiation, taxes on the wealthy will “go up a little bit (relative to his own proposal but lower than the current rates) I'm not saying that he won't shift eventually but that isn’t actually a position. Taken on its own terms, it is a declaration that some wealthy want to pay more of their own accord, and merely a “feeling” that something “may” happen in terms of policy to make it so. If the people don't want to buy his prediction they will not elect a Democratic majority Congress.

Nothing like cutting off your nose to spite your face as the right way to go for an economic policy. Why haven't all leaders always done this in all countries forever?!

There are no positions written in stone, as he has just admitted himself with the tax plan.

Nothing written in stone means no commitments he has to live up to after election. It also means instability for the markets, which freaks out investors, and when investors panic the market crashes and the economy suffers.

No matter which way you cut it, Trump is going to be really, really bad for the American ecomony.

But hey, he's going to build a wall to keep out people who won't even want to get in after the economy collapses. So at least there is that.

Which can only be attributed to Obama insofar as he has been the excuse the racists wanted to be able to be vocal with their racism.

@LFRAgain:That is the problem with people who are making more than enough money, they're so busy spending so much of it on high end things that they have to spend even more to maintain they can't comprehend that they should be managing their income better. So in order to keep their high standards they believe they need to make more when they should be paying attention to how much they actually make and work from there. Many people on drastically lower incomes have a grasp on this because it's the only way they can survive in this overpriced economy.

the question is "who are considered the wealthy"? I believe most people would agree $1mm+ household income is wealthyt but how about $500k? i believe that its $250k combined household income right now which allows for a decent life but not what i would consider wealthy.

@fds, ask someone who is making $17k~$60k combined household income if they believe that $250k combined income isn't considered upper middle class/wealthy.

The odd thing in the discussion about tax rates is that almost half of U.S. workers do not owe or pay any federal taxes. The amount taken from their paychecks, if any, is refunded when they file their taxes. On top of that, a family of four earning up to about $55K per year can expect to receive refund of the Social Security taxes they paid - and still retain their right to claim the full amount of Social Security when they qualify to receive it. Moving up into the middle incomes, a family of four making up to $125K per year will only pay 6 or 7 percent of their income in federal taxes after taking the standard available deductions and getting credit for property taxes and mortgage interest paid. The reality is that the rich already pay almost all of the federal income taxes collected by the government. Poor and lower middle class people are largely exempt from paying federal income taxes - so how can the rich be "not paying their share"?

Another definition of "the rich" are those with a net worth over $10,000,000.00. They own a huge % of the land + other assets and resources of the US.
