Standing at center stage, Trump — still a long-shot candidate for the White House — declared that he had a “phenomenal temperament” and a record in business that would help him on the world stage.

Yes, Mr Trump.. 4 Chapter 11 bankruptcies is an outstanding record to help you on the world stage!

Fiorina was the debate’s newest addition after a standout performance in a preliminary forum last month. She sharply outlined her approach to foreign policy, citing the importance of knowing the name of General Qassem Suleimani, the commander of Iran’s elite Quds Force.

I'm sure she does. With some creative subsidiary paperwork, HP was the dominant printer company in Iran.....right in the middle of US sanctions. That generated hundreds of millions of dollars for HP, which didn't help much since Fiorino is pretty much credited with running the company into the ground. Then pocketing $20 million. Then not paying her staff members after her last Presidential bid.

Florida Sen. Marco Rubio jumped in and said it’s important to speak Spanish to communicate with immigrants who might become Republican voters — highlighting a priority for a party that has overwhelmingly lost the rapidly growing Hispanic vote in recent presidential elections.

I tend to like a lot of what Rubio and Bush say on immigration. Sometimes you'd like to piece together different GOP positions and create one pretty good candidate.

Seriously, I still cannot discern whether Trump is a real candidate or a supreme performance artist. I mean, that completely unprovoked attack on Rand was hilarious!

Mod: Would you feel comfortable with Donald Trump’s finger on the nuclear codes? Fiornia: That’s for the voters to answer. Mod: Mr. Trump? Trump: Rand Paul doesn’t even belong on this stage, he’s at 1 percent in the polls — but anyway. Mod: Mr. Paul? Paul: It was kind of a non sequitur. Trump was asked whether or not he’d be capable of, be in good hands in being charge of nuclear weapons, and he goes into this sideways attack on me. That goes to his character. Do we want someone with this careless language to be negotiating with Iran? I think there’s a sophomoric quality, entertaining quality to Mr. Trump. His visceral response to attack people based on their appearance — tall, fat, ugly — that happened in junior high. Trump: I’ve never attacked him on his looks, and believe me, there’s plenty of subject matter there.

This is big. The biggest. Presidential election entertainment never in history matched this, not even Andrew Jackson. But seriously: WTF?!

Very entertaining. The republicans' reality show.

Could be a Pyrrhic victory, though. Carly also said she wouldn't talk to Putin, who controls a huge arsenal of nuclear weapons. Even Rand Paul called her out on that one, saying Reagan talked with Soviet leaders. If she ever DID win the nomination, that quote would be played on TV endlessly, followed by a mushroom cloud.

He'll probably be taken out by a drone when, right after being sworn in, commander-in-chief Trump says to his chief of staff, "All right, let's take out that Qud's Force SOB already, sheesh."

To much Trump focus. Love the two tier minimum wage idea from Carson. The late term abortion comment from Fiorina. And while I have and do think Trump is playing a game he is and does broker deals something entirely different than what is in office now. I'll give him that. Securing the border and incentivizing USA production once again will help this nation become strong again.

-3 ( +2 / -5 )

...incentivizing USA production....

The GOP suggests "incentivizing USA production" by minimizing as far as possible the minimum wage, worker welfare, and healthcare; emasculating union rights; and eliminating environmental protection measures.

Call it what you'd like. We'll see what the voters prefer.

Bush stopped cold and looked directly at Trump, saying, “You know what? As it relates to my brother, he kept us safe.”

The elephant in the room is going to be AWOL for Bubbles. The electorate cannot look at Bubbles and help but see Bush. Bubbles doesn't help much, he has the animation of one of those replica Presidents down in Disney Florida, maybe that's where he learned it. (along with his pabulum absolution of AWOL, fairy tales are fun!)

Rump continues his TV show about Rump. Christie was well focused, pass. Carson, too damn reasonable, pass. Rubio, still practicing being Stately, fail. Cruz, pinched angry and greasy, fail. Huckabee, pitching his evangelical roots, fail. Fiorina, answering an adolescent taunt she should have ignored, pass. Paul, again a nice guy who's hard not to like, pass. Walker, 'let me dismantle America', fail. Kasich, who? fail.

The focus on Rump makes these chats ripe for taunts but little else, more like a roast than a debate. As a field of candidates, the choice is who has the leaste liability. Not one of these eleven comes without the shadow of AWOL and not one doesn't return Americans to the dark empire of endless wars and religiosity. The Founders warned against both foreign entanglements and religion, but this is all the gop-tea has to offer Americans.

@kcjapan, curious about the Bubbles nickname. Did one of these fifteen bipeds live in a cage on MJ's Neverland ranch? I think the voters have every right to know which one. On second thought, do we want the debates to turn into an overhyped circus?

What I find most amusing is that the establishment candidates (on both sides of the aisle) are so unnerved by Trump and his populist antics. Even more ridiculous is the "selection" of Dem candidates : Grandma Bengazi-Clintliar, Pappy Joe Lyin'-Biden, and "my-hero-is-Marx" Sanders.

Kind of a big asterisk there, the whole 9/11 thing and all.

I watched the debate Rubio had the best answer with facts to back his position the rest were kicking for position and soft shoeing the issues with a lack of understanding for foreign affairs. Fiorina was there name dropping Steve jobs a dead man can't verify nothing if anything the entire show was nothing but POLITICAL BULLYING AGAINST ONE OPPONENT I'm not saying I agree with Donald Trump but that's what the debate appeared to be. Let's beat on Donald!

If Jeb! wants to go with the whole Bush kept us safe routine, he may win the Republican primary, but he will lose the general.

Sorry, Fight Club rule.

do we want the debates to turn into an overhyped circus?

That's not possible.

do we want the debates to turn into an overhyped circus?

Oh, that happened once Donald "There's a sucker born every minute" Trump threw his toupee into the ring.

And, BTW, they are not "debates." They are Q and A.

Serrano: He'll probably be taken out by a drone when, right after being sworn in, commander-in-chief Trump says to his chief of staff, "All right, let's take out that Qud's Force SOB already, sheesh."

"We've got these terrific drones. They're absolutely fantastic."

As a non-American outsider looking in, Republicans really do look like a pretty stupid bunch!

3 ( +5 / -2 )

Buraku

Oh, most of them are smart enough. A few are really smart. Like Calgary Cruz.

The problem is the party. Its broken. The base is full of furious dolts and rubes. And these fools force the debate to the lowest common denominator. And this makes otherwise intelligent people like Cruz and Christie sound like idiots.

Rubio reminded voters about his compelling personal story, including his parents’ move to the U.S. from Cuba.

Was Rubio still spinning that yarn about his parents being exiles fleeing the Castro revolution?

Lots of GOP criticism here. What do the democrats have? A liar and a socialist?

laugh, and the world laughs with you

cry, and you cry alone

gop-tea, always lots of laughs, and brutal insensitivity.

it's a gop-tea thing, most can't understand.

It's an article about the Republicans debates. Do you want us to wait for the a Democrats to debate, then ask, "What about Republicans" over and over again? That would be just silly.

Trump took questions at a rally in New Hampshire on Thursday evening. The first questioner called Obama a Muslim, said he was not American, and asked Trump when "we can get rid" of Muslim "training camps."

"We have a problem in this country — it's called Muslims," the man said. "We know our current president is one. You know he's not even an American — birth certificate, man. ... We have training camps growing, where they want to kill us. That's my question. When can we get rid of them?" the questioner said.

Trump responded: "We're going to be looking at a lot of different things. You know, a lot of people are saying that, and a lot of people are saying that bad things are happening out there. We're going to look at that and plenty of other things."

"Critics almost immediately blasted Trump for not correcting the questioner to note that Obama was born in the US and is a Christian."

Oh for cryin' out loud, I'd like to see Obama correct every liberal who said Sarah Palin said she can see Russia from her house, lol.

"We have a problem in this country — it's called Muslims," the man said. — comments

What the comment fails to acknowledge is Trump's responsibility and leadership.

An openly racist bigot wants to "get the Muslims out" and Trump ignores the bigotry. Of course, Trump knows this is his base, bigots and misogynists. So on leadership, Trump can't reign in a bigot because that's his base. Second, Trump led the racist birth certificate campaign.

If that's the gop-tea idea of Presidential, they deserve to lose the House as well. What a horrible excuse for a man this Trump is. Well, no surprise he ducked military service, and he hasn't the backbone to correct a bigot. Real Presidential. What a LOSER.

Watched the full debate yesterday. IMO, Trump is the only one fit to be President. He's the only one who states that he will get some smart people behind him, all the rest are think they know Everything already. Disgusting really watching how the MSM turns this into a freak show. Trump is not an egomaniac, but all the rest are. Having said that, I will not vote for anyone who still thinks that Osama Bin Ladin was responsible for the 911 coup. If you do, then the sand must be filling up your ears by now.
