These people are showing Libs what Liberty is really about. All the death, theft and destruction is unnecessary though. -->Not really necessary when Alexander burned Persepolis either.

Rioting and looting go hand in hand in such situations. Seen some really bad stuff myself when a mob, etc gets worked up.

It is more or less impossible to affect a revolution without some bloodshed; would-be revolutionaries take warning.

“If (Ben Ali) had stayed in the country it would be better.” Isn't he the reason the riots started in the first place?

The embarassed position of French government shows a gain the limits of real plolitiks in diplomatic world when the priority is to defend economic interests first.

Situation looks better today. I was there for two days in late December after driving accross from Algeria. Crazy. Lovely place, they even like Westerners!

Yes Madverts, even if it was a former French protectorate, the independence of Tunisia was less dramatic than for Algeria. A lot of Tunisians are living in France and there is good friendship between French people and Tunisian people. Do not Imagine that because it is an Arabic country they don't like westerners.

    SolidarityTea,

What's the connection to Wikileaks? Watch how I post an interpretation of the revolution followed by the name of the source : "the Arab World's Gdansk, the birthplace of Solidarity in Poland, which heralded the end to Communist rule in Eastern Europe." --Anthony Shadid
