BBC Reports:
Ennahda's leaders have pledged to create a multi-party, secular democracy, and not an Islamist state.
A spokeswoman for the party, Yusra Ghannouchi, said: "Tunisians have voted in fact for those parties that have been consistently part of the struggle for democracy and opposed to Ben Ali's dictatorship.
"At the forefront of those parties is Ennahda party, and we believe that, as expected, it has achieved the greatest share of the vote."

anglootaku, you're upsetting the anti-Islam narrative! All the wingnuts know in their hearts that it's impossible for Islam and democracy to coexist.

Are you saying there is no correlation between Islam and despotism?

There's a correlation between poverty and despotism, for sure. Poor wealth distribution. Islam? Not really, other than so many Islamic countries are poor. Even if there is a correlation I can't imagine what the causal link would be.
Some of the world's worst despotic regimes were/are atheistic - N Korea, Khmer Rouge-era Cambodia. Causal link between atheism and despotism, or even correlation? Doubt it.

Some of them are extremely wealthy, so your comment on saying they are poor is silly really..

Good for Tunisia, those that touched off the Arab Spring. A fine example for the others.

Just because some Muslims are terrorists , it doesn't mean Islam is a religion of terrorism , a title on JT said today that a Japanese woman was captured for smuggling drugs , does that make Buddhism a religion of smuggling and drugs ,,,, well I doubt it

There is a positive correlation, but that correlation exists in just the same way for other religions or ideologies. Islam is not at all special. The less people understand something - the more they believe - the easier they can be manipulated politically.
The election results in Tunisia are hardly surprising since all parties emerging from the old Ben Ali regime, including "opposition" parties, were discredited. They were located on the "progessive" side of the political spectrum, so Tunisians voted for a conservative alternative. There are plenty of conservative christian parties in Europe, which we have also learned to judge by their respective politics but not their names. The same should be done with Ennahda.

MOST of them are not extremely wealthy. Why do you think the 'Arab Spring' happened? You think the average person in Iraq/Morocco/Jordan/Tunisia/Algeria/Egypt/Sudan/Somalia/Pakistan is wealthy? Just because some gulf state sheikhs are, hardly means the average Muslim is wealthy.

I never mentioned terrorism, Motaz.
