French lawmakers passed a bill Thursday making it a crime to deny that the mass killings of Armenians by Ottoman Turks constitute genocide.

This is pretty rich from a nation that had abused various nations during it's colonial occupation around the world including Vietnam, the Caribbean, Laos, Cambodia and various African nations.

France pooped on Algeria from a high height but the Turks need to check out the definition of genocide, as that is not a correct description. Unlike their own genocide.

France however was no angel to it's colonies, but the Algerians are returning the favour with the dregs they sent to live in France. Anyone doubting that needs a trip to Marseilles. It's the only place in Western Europe I've seen people toting AK47's openly.

"or every Algerian they genocided back in 1945!!"

Words escape me buda. You must be the re-incarnation of AJP Taylor.

Wow, certainly going to be some fireworks in this show now. If France is smart it will say, "Yes we did commit horrible crimes of our own during our colonial period, but we know what we did was wrong so it won't happen again." then Turkey will HAVE to understand that you can't paint over or ignore the problems of the past and expect progress.

Reminds me of the idiotic hate crimes laws in the US. Laws like these that criminalize peoples thoughts and free expression are wrong headed. A persons thoughts and beliefs are not in themselves a crime - only actions should be judged. It's a shame that Turkey is not able to face up to it's terrible history, but throwing people in jail for being willfully ignorant of history will do no one any good.

The French colonial rule and subsequent war in Algeria are well documented. But it is nowhere near the definition of "genocide", which means destruction of a whole ethnic group in a territory. To the contrary, not only where the French kicked out of Algeria... now France is massively settled by Algerians, who eventually will kick the French out of France.

How is that for a recipe for Turkey? Being kicked out of eastern Turkey by Armenians?

I hope some Western journalists have the guts to take up Erdogan on this hipocrisy.
