Turkey is playing both sides of the street

Background reading shows that fighters and materiel have been moving across the border between Turkey and Syria already, but just not at this particular crossing point. In light of this, Turkey's statement that it was helping Kurdish fighters to cross (no mention of whether Peshmerga, Syrian Kurd, PKK, Iraqi Kurd, etc., ) sounds more like an admission of the status quo than a declaration of intent.

Zichi's right... all the Turks are doing is letting Kurds over the border, that's it. No support, just permission to go.

Meanwhile, some of those airdropped weapons ended up falling straight into the hands of the IS. Videos have surfaced showing IS with their new US weapons. BBC is also reporting this.
