The real problem here is when they come home they no longer fit in and the life they lead on the battle field is no longer the life they need to live in society, they need to have proper reintergration with the real world. Governments need to take this responcibility of reeduction.

The armed services is still very much a masculine organization and I would assume many women who fell victim to sexual assaults remain tight lipped about their incident in fear of retaliation, shame, and other factors. While there are many find people who join the military, it is also a destination for those of questionable and nefarious individuals. I think it also remains a very racist organization as the recent death of Private Danny Chen will demonstrate.

Bush turned the US military into one huge penal colony basically. In order to feed the war machine and the Haliburton profits they scrapped the bottom of the barrel to fill the uniforms. A big chunk of recruits get passed on via wavers for drug offenses or other criminal activity. And then you give these guys training and a gun and let them fight in two immoral wars. No wonder things are screwed up. And will be for decades.

Solution, a draft so its not just the misfits who make up the military. Republicans will not let this happen cause if they do their easy path to failed wars will not be so easy any longer.

A draft is a horrible idea. Our military is techinacal and tactical. You want to throw someone like unreconstructed into that mix? No thank you. In the military, entitled people get their battle buddies killed because they have no clue about the world around them. They can only see straight ahead and only care about themselves. During Vietnam, morale was terribly low and the draft was a large part of that. The real solution, in my opionion, is to make the military an attractive option by offering free healthcare (instead of partially taking it away, which is being suggested), free college while in service, and allow them to transfer their GI Bill to their families. These are things that are going to bring in better recruits. Also, we can really trim the fat at the top. I have a friend in Afghanistan who is a Major. He said there are a lot of senior officers over there trying to get their war ribbons without really serving a purpose. He told me where he is stationed they have 4 O-6's doing the job of and E-5. That kind of fraud waste and abuse can be cut out as well with some honest and proper leadership.
If the military budget is a problem, cut the Air Force's R&D. That's a huge part of the military budget. The Air Force is always trying out space toys that constantly take years longer than projected and billions more than budgeted. Cut back on some of that tech and we could save a fortune.

That is a statement that makes no sense. Since there is no draft the Navy is jealous of the Air Force. Really? That may be the stupidest thing ever posted to the internet. The two things have no connection to one another. The draft is one subject. The Navy being jealous of the Air Force is another subject all together, and hardly truthful if you ask a Sailor. So congratulations. You posted complete drivel.

I don't think it's wise to take one isolated incident and extrapolate it out to cover an entire organization of 3 million people.
