Smith, think about it? A missile... A boy shaped object shooting to the heavens? Froyd in a sentence, so the tag MANPADS is appropriate, Grrrrrrr did you see that? It was, the "name" run through several departments and it's similar to a maxi shield. Mmmmm man pads. Good call.

It's just an acronym for Man Portable Air Defense System. Basically your shoulder launched AA missile like the Stinger.

One of these days it will unfortunately happen - a stolen MANPAD used to shot down a civilian aircraft. I hope this never happens and everyone has to understand why as modern civilization is dependent on air travel. Is it possible to retrofit all MANPAD with some kind of self-destruct mechanism that will make it inoperable if not used within, say, 1year?

Thanks for the technical clarification USN, but I think Smitty has a point. It sounds like a Maxi-Pad.....only for men??

No way has that enough testosterone in it.

Either way, it would seem promising the new Libyan regime are allowing the US to aid in removal of such nastiness.

The last thing we need is for some idiot fanatical terrorist to get their hands on these missiles and bring down a 747 etc..on take off or just before landing etc..the USA needs to get all of these manpads ASAP, use them in our armed forces or destroy them but ASAP!!

They only find those that have not made their way into the hands of Hamas and other terrorist organizations. How ridiculous to try to turn this disaster into some kind of propaganda victory.
