Is the writer of this article that naïve? The elephant in the room is the current US political debate about immigration initiated by Republican candidates for president. Add to that the terrorist angle and the result means fewer politicians willing stick their necks out. Should the number be increased? Yes, but I have my doubts.

Why is this the U.S.'s responsibility?

And in OTHER NEWS, here on Japan Today.Com: " Hungary CLOSES Boarders due to SECURITY ISSUES"...WHO's kidding WHO ?!

Washington is the leading humanitarian donor to the region, has launched a diplomatic effort to end the political crisis with Syria and leads a coalition bombing the Islamic State jihadist group.

I guess we owe the world an apology. Typical.

Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Kuwait, Bahrain and the UAE have so far taken zero refugees, even though they are wealthy, close by, speak the same language, share the same religion and process millions of visitors annually for the Hajj. Europe and the U.S. should refuse to take anyone until Arab countries start helping their fellow Arabs.

The Arab culture is not an ideal fit in western societies. And I feel sorry for Germany. Tourism may be lost, crime on the rise, handouts increased, and what has been a very efficient society may change. Assad is a dictator, he deserves what he gets but it must be from his own people. ISIS is the devil on earth. They need to be illuminated forever.

The USA has enough forced immigrants or economic refugees as libs like to say from south of the border. Unless that flow is controlled ho can US accept other refugees?

The refugee crisis was caused by the US and its allies funding and arming the Al Qaida and ISIS rebels in the first place.

Look at the mess the US caused in Libya.

So let's blame the U.S. Again, but let's give the leaders of the countries that these refugees are running a FREE pass. Good lord...... Also, I thought the Europeans want the U.S. To mind its business and stay out of the ME. Now all of a sudden we have to do something??? This is why the U.S. Should listen and do to what it thinks is right and everyone else can sit in a corner...

aid agencies advice talking their own book. US has indeed been strong by bombing anything that moves in the Middle East and therefore creating this mess in the first place.

A flood ofmuslim refugees to USA will gives more ammunitions for Donald Trump to attack the Democrats. You heard his famous "World dumping ground" speech was targeting the hispanics, maybe he might use some more flamming languages in future. That just made him stronger than ever. Bad timing for humanitarian crisis.

America has promised to take in only 10,000 as refugees next year.

Whatdo ya mean ONLY 10,000!

And those bearded young men, the healthy ones shouting- "Allahu Akbar" (God is Great) ought to be thankful the US has opened it's borders to at least one of them. Ten thousand? That's a big number.

The UN needs to provide temporary relief to these refugees, then routinely deport them to Syria. Btw, perhaps othe gulf nations could pitch in. They're muslims too, are they not?

I don't care if the world thinks that the USA is weak towards the Muslim migrant situation going on in Europe now. Even if the USA and coalition countries caused more issues, it is countries like Germany and Sweden with their stupid immigration policies they advertised that is causing the flow of these migrants towards Europe. They should have shut up or told the migrants earlier on to go to some Muslim friendly country and not enter the Christian EU. Germany has I believe another agenda here.

Are you serious? Flooding of migrants by sea to Italy is happening for many years, the cause is not the recent "welcome to Syirians" of Germany and Sweden.

Before this even happened the US has been accepting migrants. Sorry, but I don't think we have to change our pattern in this case.
