Low morale, low discipline. As usual.

Quote: Chamblin was charged with failing to properly supervise junior Marines, failing to require junior Marines to wear protective equipment, failing to report the misconduct of junior Marines, failing to report the negligent discharge of a grenade launcher, and failing to stop the indiscriminate firing of weapons, the Marine Corps said in a statement."

Uh, so, he was not charged with the urination even though he pleaded guilty to it?

And you can't get charged with sullying the reputation of the US armed forces internationally? Or making the international community's mission in Afghanistan and Pakistan so much harder?

Gosh, if this is the punishment for urinating on Taliban insurgent corpses, what's the punishment for Taliban insurgent-style torture and murder?

Of course he was charged with it. You can't plead guilty to a charge you're not being charged with. Even in a plea-bargain situation, you can't plead to the altered charge until the altered charge has been levied against you.

To be sure they should not have done this, and they DEFINATELY should not have posted it. However, having been blown to bits, being peed on after death seems like the least of these Taliban's problems.

It's war, vs. an intractable enemy (who as Serrano correctly points out are capable of much worse) and these things happen. For the Marine Corps., it was mostly a PR issue. Rule #1 don't make the Corp. look bad.

Staff Sergeant, do your time, pay your fine, move on with your life....(and please remember that the flashing red light means you are being filmed.)

It's fine to kill these people, but not to urinate on them.

Bah, at least drill into the recruits in basic training that they must not get caught on film in such a acts. Personally I think urinating on the taliban would be best done whilst they're still breathing so at least they get to witness it, especially in the case of the stone-age cretins that recently murdered people trying to administer polio vaccines of all things.

It's called desecrating a corpse. You can't disparage the enemy for doing it if your own soldiers are doing it as well. At least you can't do it without looking hypocritical.

imho, it's way more indecent to kill someone, than to urinate on someone already dead.

Miss Manners would take issue with this soldier's sense of etiquette, but someone once said, war is hell.
