I can just see the oyajis at Japan's PMDA rushing to approve this. Not.

No the oji-sans are all chasing young teens the perverts!

"Addyi"

Could they think of a more stupid name?

Still waiting on that male birth control pill though.....

According to documents on the FDA website, women taking flibanserin reported on average 4.4 sexually satisfying encounters per month, compared to 3.7 in a placebo group and 2.7 before beginning the study.

Just take the placebo and get 50% of the benefits without any of the side-effects.

husbands desperately need it for their wives

U.S. regulators approve first 'female Viagra'

I wish people would stop calling it this. It is in no way the female equivalent of Viagra.

Viagra helps horny dudes get erections when they otherwise can't. Addyi helps not-so-horny ladies become more so. There is no equivalent drug to help men with waning libido issues that I am aware of.

Just another pill to slip in the drink

But while the women’s descriptions of the drug made it sound great, the data tell a different story. In clinical trials testing its effectiveness, flibanserin has either failed or barely passed. Only about 10-12 percent of women in trials benefitted from taking the drug.

Why do they call it "viagra"? From the description it sounds like some sort of aphrodisiac, but that is not what viagra is at all.

That said, if that stuff really works, I bet lots of male will buy it...

Why do they call it "viagra"?

For the same reason they slap "Gate" on any scandal under the sun: lack of journalistic integrity.

Having said that, how can a "medication" that has nausea, dizziness and sleepiness as side effects improve women's sex lives? (And doesn't booze already do this?)

A more fitting name: Niagara........

CrazyJoe,

Understood, but the word that follows Niagara is ...

And that's the OPPOSITE of what we want.

This is wonderful! Now, after virtually enforcing abstinence in our teenage females and thereby having their sex drive wither and die by the time they reach full adulthood, we can now revive it with a pill and go on like society has done nothing wrong!

Or maybe not, as I posit that that sort of sex deprived upbringing only creates females that treat the college cafeteria like a hog trough resulting in women most of us prefer have a low sex drive and leave us alone.

And now we can expect the accusations that I am misogynist even though what I just proposed was aimed at improving the well-being of women. I predict this drug will be much less used in continental Europe than North America and if I am right it will go a long way to justify all I have said.

There are better ways to boost your desire and increase libido naturally without the nasty side effects of drugs like this one that doesn't work right away meaning it's not effective and also has some safety concerns. Getting active physically by exercising, improving your diet, learning relaxation, and using other non-drug remedies are better and wiser ways to get your sex life back on track.

Just another pill to slip in the drink

@lostrune 2, Lmao. Bill Cosby would've loved these pills.

works on the brain to boost younger women’s libido if they have lost interest in sex.

Women in the US are not at risk for losing interest in sex. Women in the US are probably most sexually active of all modern nations. -sorry no links-

This drug does not make a woman instantly horny, so slipping it in a drink wouldn't do anything. It has to be taken over a period of time. Even then, it hardly makes a difference and has a lot of side effects. All that for an extra "encounter" or two a month? A nice dinner and a bottle of wine would probably work better.

Try a diamond ring.

Its not remotely that simple, particularly for women. Once they lose their desire, its generally gone for good. Getting it back, and especially keeping it, requires actual sexual activity. All else is secondary, even if it it is helpful.

The rule of the day is: use it or lose it. I know from experience that people will reject that simple fact like so many simple truths out there, simply because its not some wishy-washy message of hope for those who already lost it. My message is for those who have not lost it yet. Use it, or kiss it good-bye. This new drug probably won't help you, so don't go there.

The pharmaceutical industry is wildly out of control, making and selling useless products simply to make money. People need to realize this, and not get taken in by advertising.

1 ( +2 / -1 )

Bah, medicinal cocaïne would have done the trick for the ladies.

Sadly, the side effects on men means Viagra will still be needed if shared!

...so, your stance is that low-sex drive in women is not a medical condition worth treatment? I imagine there are large numbers of women (and men for that matter) who would disagree with you.

I like consumerism. It's nice when companies make things I want to buy. If this drug improves people's quality of life, then why would you begrudge it's makers a profit?

Some poor sexless husbands are probably already planning on slipping a steady diet of 'em in food and drinks
