Radiation has not been detected in passengers or luggage.

-it's on the planes, the passengers and the air inside the planes.

Seems like overkill to me. I saw someone comment on a Canadian news article about Japan stating that we will bring the radiation to Canada and kill them all with it. There seems to be a lot of misinformation.

I bet you get more radiation from those new anti-terror X-ray checks than from the radiation contained in Tokyo. BTW do they conduct those checks in special rooms? We better buy some iodine pills before going thru customs.

No harmful levels of radiation have reached the Tokyo area, either, but that hasn't stopped the international media and the governments from inducing panic.

Just read a story of a Fukushima man who arrived in Seoul and was found to have 1 microsievert radiation on his hat and coat. A typical chest x-ray exposes someone to 100 microsieverts, so I guess that puts it in perspective.

What do they do to you if you have any on you?

Maybe the same as the guys on the US Navy ships off Fukushima had to do to remove radiation a few days back- wash with soap and water.

If the core is partially melt down, radiation level is not very lethal. However it will still produce the radiation which is harmful for health. The individual safety is depending on the nuclear safety knowledge, distance and core temperature.

US and Russian governments are taking the extra precaution for their safety now. Many people still have a unwanted memory of three miles island accident of 1979. Knowledge has a power of protecting the unwanted consequence. If there is no transparency, the people will not aware about their safety.

Agreed, I hope now instead of just pat downs by the TSA they use radiation detectors on folks private parts to ensure no nasty radiation is present.

It keeps the public happy and helps improve the employment rate. More TSA and radiation screeners. What a waste of money. Has anyone thought about all the people who are bringing the products to various countries from Japan? They have to go to work in Japan. Duh.
