I know, I know, there will be plenty of attacks on the US, but...

It's amazing what is asked of troops, but what little is given to them as far as pay and support. The men and women in the fray are always given such little care, told to stay longer, told to come back, told to wait for care, and so on. They're soldiers, but they are people, too and most of them don't feel good about what they're told to and why they're supposed to want to do it.

For whatever reasons people joined the military, I promise you it wasn't to visit exotic places, meet strange people, THEN KILL THEM.

I have been there and done that. But so did my father and grandfather (and great grandfather) in previous wars. And as tough as things are for our soldiers nowadays, it is not a scant fraction as tough as our fathers and grandfathers had it. In previous wars as many American soldiers died in a single battle as all of the American soldiers who have died in Iraq and Afghanistan over a decade.

Obama can slow down the troop withdrawal, stop it, or send more soldiers, he no longer has to worry about being elected or reelected. He can actually do what is necessary, rather than doing what is politically expedient.

I am shocked. Obama had me convinced that he was going to hand off the Afghan people to the tender mercies of the Taliban no matter what.

I hear what you are trying to say and I certainly can appreciate the sentiment. But these are all volunteers. They are not stupid and they know what the deal is in the military.

At the end of the day it is still shuffling deckchairs on the Titanic. Stay another year, stay five more. Once the US leaves the Taliban will take over. No army in history has won in Afghanistan.

Wolfpack,

I am shocked. Obama had me convinced that he was going to hand off the Afghan people to the tender mercies of the Taliban no matter what.

Nah that was your boy Bush.

Obama should ask the Chinese to send in some troops to relieve the weary U.S. soldiers.

Hmmm, maybe I'll seriously start trying to get my old Contracting job back.

No, it was Obama and Obama was the one that wanted to leave Afghanistan in a hurry and the man for some unknown reason sees it important to announce to the world what our goal, mission and time table of operations are going to be. Why on Earth as to why he wants everyone to know this just baffles me and other top ranking military officials.

Now... why does that decision not surprise me. An american president able to learn from past mistake... no way...

All you soldiers with your comments here... You want to die? For absolutely nothing? Really?

"a sharp rise in Afghan casualties from the 13-year conflict, with the U.N. recording a 22% increase in the number of civilians killed and injured in 2014"

The gift of George W. Bush to the people of Afghanistan. Truly, the gift that keeps giving.

Will Mr. Bush's War be the longest in American Taxpayer's history?

ABCNews reported: "Jun 07, 2010 · Today the Afghan war becomes the longest in U.S. history, surpassing the Vietnam War."

Well, done Mr. Bush! Your accomplishments will become the responsibility of a third generation of Americans and the Afghan people. Well done. Truly, the pinnacle of a storied career. But, as the world rejoices, let the good citizens of the globe not forget the contributions of the American GOP-Tea in their contribution. Hail! Mission Accomplished!

So how many Afghanis have been injured and killed under the Taliban, how many women were killed by "Honor killings?" How many women are oppressed and how many girls were subjected to beatings and torture and mutilation from the Taliban? Where is your outrage?

The gift of George W. Bush to the people of Afghanistan. Truly, the gift that keeps giving.

If that were true, but what you meant to say was Obama. He's the president, so the gift that keeps on giving.

When will Obama address the $18 Trillion deficit?

Since Obama took over more soldiers have died and by the way, where is your harsh criticism of Obama about that?

Didn't Obama mention that Al Qaida is on the run and that ISIS is not a threat as well as Iran and what concessions did the president get from Iran? And yet, he wants lift sanctions against one other major sponsors or radical Islamic terrorists.
