U.S. soldier in Afghan massacre gets life with no parole

It was not so much his crimes that led to this, but more of committing actions that a lid could not be kept on or an excuse invented for, getting caught, and damaging the reputation of the U.S. military.

We all know this. Of course some will deny it while knowing it for their own reasons.

A chunk of the evidence of that is that he won't be put on trial in Afghanistan. The military protects their own and the U.S. government protects the military. They both put the reputation of the military ahead of the very lives of the people they claim to be there to help. If they handed this murderer over to Afghan justice, the sense of American soldier impunity would be lost and that would risk having fewer young fools sign up as well as put at risk the same people who conducted this military trial.

That they would protect some is understandable. That they would protect those such as Bales is stark proof that they are bunch of thugs.

Too bad the Taliban don't punish their people when they commit massacres.

A few token punishments by the U.S. military should not be confused with actually punishing those responsible for massacres. I bet the Taliban have also punished their own for such things, and also in token numbers. But the western press would never say that. They would just call it infighting or something.

There was a massacre by the Taliban that happened sometime back. Of course the press just told us the Taliban killed a bunch of innocent people. What happened is that many men of that town abandoned their posts or something like that. Of course a lot of innocent people were also killed, but the press went out of its way to fail to report what got it all started. The press is not here to keep us truly informed you know.

So this guy wont get the death sentence but the arab guy who killed some US soldiers might, double standards or ?

To the Taliban, going after civilians is not illegal, so what's there to punish for?

So wait, is this the right time to bring up all of the horrible things Afghanistan has done? Maybe I should get the ball rolling by saying, "I know what he did was bad, but...."
