There is no "debt ceiling." Ceiling implies a limit as in a house, but a ceiling on an imaginary number such as debt is like defining infinity. Everyone wants to know what is on the other side, so let's go there. If someone owes a large sum of money, the owner of the paper can go to court and confiscate assets. Will China try to confiscate the USA and face tremendous unemployment because the USA no longer consumes its production? The world economy is a tangled web of lifelines.

A new law should be passed, say like if these congressmen, senators etc..do not finish their jobs, then they do not get to go home for Thanks Giving, Christmas, New Years etc...they are living off of our TAXES, going off to nice places like Hawaii, etc...but their jobs are not finished, we are waiting for these fools to do their jobs!!! Where is Rush "Hot Air" Limbaugh when we need him most??

President Obama: Don't cut a deal screwing the poor and middle class. Let the Republicans hold everything up and just continue to shill for the wealthiest. That'll put their backs against the wall and insure a better outcome.

President Obama: make EVERYONE pay a fair share. All Americans must have skin in the game or they should have not right to vote in federal elections...

Oh sure, no pay for Congress. The lowest paid professional baseball player sitting next to Ichiro, if that could ever happen, earns a million US dollars a year. Every member of Congress can buy and sell this player's contract. A few days of lost pay is insignificant. Why does anyone want to be president for a salary $600,000 less than a non-player on the Yankees? By the way, what is the salary of Japan's prime minister? Is he or she willing to trade positions with the CEO of a major Japanese company?

Wow. A million dollars a year isn't even enough for the greedy Republican fat cats in Congress and their even greedier patrons in big business. What do they want, all of the funds to come from Medicaid, Medicare, and Social Security. Disgusting. Thank God that Romney wasn't elected president!!

Merry Cliffmas and a Happy New Shear!

The politicians, namely the SuperCommittee, and the President signed off on the "poison pill" which they may have to down dry, and the sheeple will get to suffer the Consequences.

It is all about making sure that the American public knows who is in charge and how it must accept Congress' incompetence. Show the money!

I do not mind emptying the trash. That way we can cut on some of those juicy custodial contracts with the Japanese companies. We are pampered too much. And we can also cut the grass too.

The debtor in chief, medias, and their followers make the debt ceiling sound meaningless. Educated advice would be to avoid the debt by all means. The revenue from increasing tax for the rich is politically sound, but will not put a dent into the deficit; as most folks want to believe. The real issue is "control spending", America is a rich nation in debt? U.S must be willing to put fiscal responsibility and working to reduce the deficit for future generation. It seems like " ask what I can get from my country" is taking over "what I can do for my country". America can do better than that.

Obama and the Dems complain about Bush's tax cut policy cited the reason of trouble economy, and now they are doing jumping jack for keeping very much same policy in place with minor psychological modification of the previous one. Politics are in the eyes of beholders, and they are dirty!

@ PaulinUSA - How's that working out for France?

The debt ceiling - legislators voting to pay for a budget that they had previously voted to pay for - is a crock and should be eliminated. Obama is right to fold it into debate over the fiscal cliff. If Congress is unhappy with the debt level, they should deal with it when discussing the budget; the current situation simply encourages counterproductive grandstanding by yahoos.
