The technology goes beyond the governments ability to monitor huh? Hilarious and discouraging at the same time. Funny that they're so far behind in tech know how, and sad that they feel the need to have to monitor their citizens use of the phone.

This absolutely has nothing to do with terror, it has to do with hearsay and privacy. When some sheik does something stupid it hits the BB and instantly 200 or so people have an anonymous BB message. Some say its to curb that, others say its because they want the power to hear and see all calls, and messages to screen them for porn, gambling, and anything else haram.

Just and example, if you send a text to say your lover, wish is illegal ( adultery) and in that text is some racy conversation, the authorities will actually come knocking. I know it sounds like BS but look it up. I have seen this 2 or 3 times.

It's like full body screening at the airports (developed countries?)

Except worse. At least with the body scanners (which I am totally opposed to) it's just you and the technician, nothing saved. If governments can snoop on communications they can track/store/index/etc. You have no privacy at all.

If you are doing nothing wrong then you have nothing to fear.

Well that is the usual defence of intrusive measures of this kind.

But then the same can be said of the government that feels it needs to monitor every little detail of its population’s lives. What is the government so frightened of?

"Okay, strangers, check your guns with the sheriff. You can have 'em when you leave." a story line from many American wild, west cowboy movies. Beware tourist to these types of countries, any constitutional right does not go beyond the border, even if a president or a prime minister complains that the law is not fair to the tourist. Freedom is in the eye of the beholder, oops, holder, sorry for the mistake.

I'd use it as a marketing campaign.

"We're so high-tech, the UAE and Saudi Arabia are confused by us. Just sayin'."

UAE, China, NK as well as all of the UAE's neighbors are interested in only one objective: Control the information and the population is controlled. Sound familiar? Lenin, Marx, Mao, Castro, that little guy in NK, et al. Neither the Japanese nor American constitutions go beyond the respective borders.
