Oh well they'll still have soccer riots to look forward to. They'll still get in their punch ups one way or another.

Britain and Ireland have serious problems caused by the drug called alcohol. Its time to introduce serious restrictions, and much higher taxes, on the use of this drug. Binge drinking has become common, and people who use this drug are portrayed as "cool." The truth is the opposite. Alcohol abuse has led to an increase in illness and early death, not to mention all the associated social problems of violence. Alcohol abuse costs the country billions of pounds each year. The police and hospitals have to deal with the problems caused by disgusting drunkenness. The Social Services people also have to deal with the results of alcohol abuse. It is high time that the government became much more strict about the use of drugs such as alcohol. Opening times of public houses should be severly restricted, as should be the controls on "Off-Licences," which are responsible for many of the problems. Supermarkets should also be banned from selling alcohol. I think its time to get serious over this terrible problem of alcohol abuse. It is a curse on society.

Hay now, I'm as put off by the unruly dunk in the bar as the next guy but I'm pretty sure that if there was a concerted effort to ban alcohol would result in an amount of violence and damage disproportionate to any public good it may do. I know I would be the first one in line buying out the whiskey stock if I even got an inkling of a tax hike. Did the same thing when my state raised the tobacco tax, going to take me ages to clear out the old stock from my humidor.

I think the government hasnt changed much since they were piling off people to Van Diemans land. Righteous, biggotted, think they know it all, rules on a person's private time. You British really ought to start thinking about who is controlling you? Maybe that is the problem and why so many people dont mind a drink, dont ya think? Or did you read in a book that you know what is best for everybody?

The easiest way to quit one drug is to start another. Legalize marijuana and watch a huge chunk of the drinking problems disappear!

"The easiest way to quit one drug is to start another. Legalize marijuana and watch a huge chunk of the drinking problems disappear!"

An un-precedented amount of brits under the age of 40 smoke weed and drink in excess, as well as gobbing E or tooting coke the weekend.

The UK really is in a sad state - I so glad I left. Untile they attack the real social problems people will be turning to drugs and alcohol to numb the reality of their existence. In fact, the way things are going as I've stated before, soon they'll be banning other great British pastimes such as farting, mooning and belching.

Perhaps they'll soon also ban "sports" like darts to discourage regular ale swillers?
