First speaker in 300 years to be removed in disgrace from his position.
And his penalty?
A Peerage (with all its perks) and 1.4 million pounds-worth of pension.
That'll teach him. Another triumph for British Democracy.

Does step-down mean...going to prison. A shoplifter can expect that.

peerage? he has not got a peerage(yet) and the opinion is that he will not get one.At least Britain does have a democracy, even with all its faults it beats the alternatives hands down.

Bento - sorry to disappoint you, but he's pretty much guaranteed a peerage. Of course he is - he's a New Labour crony who's been caught with his fingers in the till.

No, at the time of writing - less than 24 hours after his resignation - he has no peerage. He will be ennobled very, very soon, if you read the article.

time will tell, but the reputation of parliament is not going to be improved by sacking the figure head of the expenses debacle then rewarding them for the job they have done,it would be slightly counter productive in the current political climate.
