They are not just pro-Russian forces, but real Russian troops who have infiltrated Ukraine and are trying to capture towns in the east of the country.

Some of European the media reporting boarders on comedy if the situation was not so serious.

France 24 reporter Gulliver Cragg, "I noted that there were reports that people with Russian accents from across the border were coordinating some of the demonstrations in Kharkiv, there was an amusing situation yesterday when some pro-Russian activists clearly mistook a theater in the centre of the city for the town hall and were calling for the mayor to come on out".

Britain Foreign Secretary has accused the Russian government of orchestrating civil unrest and fanning the flames of civil war.

The final 3 paragraphs to TR news report are probably key reasons why the Russian troops bordering Ukraine remain idle. President Putin has not demanded that Gazprom switch the gas off, warnings have been strongly stated, however Gazprom will be reluctant to threaten EU confidence in delivery. Also if Kiev wishes to divest itself of Russian political influence, Gazprom could legitimately withdrawn subsidies and present an bill based on spot markets rates. How this action will be interpreted in Europe will be carefully monitored as other former Warsaw pact Countries are receiving similar subsidies.

Whatever else is happening behind the scenes, these are popular local rebellions. People who protest have grievances. If the powers that be paid attention to them this business could be resolved with bloodshed.

Well, somebody had to show up with guns and body armor.... no average pro-Russian person would have done that. Another thing, if they're so pro Russian why don't they go to Russia instead of trying to drag everyone else there with them? The very reason the Ukranian pres got ran out of office was because he wanted to drag everyone else there with him and apparently not enough Ukranians wanted that. There was a reason Ukraine sought independence, apparently it was because they wanted to no be a part of Russia after the old USSR break-up.

This entire situation sucks, because I like China, and I like Russia, but the the governments start acting stupid and fouls it up for the citizens. No matter what anyone says, Putin shouldn't have put a military force on the edge of Ukraine.
