Russian thugs are always the same. Why should things be any different? I do not believe the Ukraine has the money to pay more. If the gas supplied is stopped it is the Russians fault. Sighs why do the Russians have to be soo pushy?

The rest of Europe was paying $500 per thousand cubic meters while the Ukraine was getting heavily subsidized gas. $418 might be too high, considering the price of natural gas has cratered over the last five months, but if the Ukraine has the money it would take to modernize its military to NATO standards (as required by membership - bringing big bucks to U.S. military contractors) it should have the money to pay the same price Romania pays for natural gas.
Russia is under no more obligation to supply a hostile Ukraine with subsidized natural gas than the United States is to supply a hostile, communist Cuba with crude oil.

Then let the Ukraine cut off the supplies to the rest of Europe. Why should they have to supply the EU with gas from their pipelines? The Russian thug wants something for nothing and 500 is too high in this energy surplus world. I think the Ukraine is under no obligation to let Russian gas flow through their country! The Russian will be able to stew in their undeliverable natural gas. The Ukraine should of never given up their missiles and nukes. It is the only thing the Russians understand, sheer force!

Considering the steep drop in oil prices, the hike in gas prices demanded by Russia seems out of proportion. But if they insist it is not strange the Ukraine wants more revenue for their transport service. Come on Russia, learn to stop bullying.

Cutting off all gas supplies seems a bit drastic. But Ukraine needs to pay their bills as well.... My guess is that in the end Europe is going to look for a way to get out from under both of them.
