Myanmar people's lives depend upon a 76-year-old, demented general, who is remarkably xenophobic and paranoiac. For S.G.Than Shwe, saving millions of lives is not as important as retifying his draft constitution (which enshrines the military rule), which took the military 15 years to complete. On May the 10th, one week after Burma was hit by Nargis, S.G. Than Shwe and his wife appeared on national television voting at the polls, happy and gay, while state-controlled TV and radios were in full blast with songs rallying the referendum...... Meanwhile, hundreds of thousands of cyclone victims went missing or dying of thirst and starvation .Millions became homeless overnight. As if there was not enough sufferings, Than Shwe government actively and systematically prevents the international aid from reaching these dying thousands. On the other hand, China's quake victims were/are being rescued by heroic soldiers and selfless relief workers, round the clock, in the full glare of international news media. PM Wan was at the scene within 2 hours from the quake. The world praised China's spectacular effort as "Magnificent and Admirable". But Myanmar's effort was rightly seen as "inhuman", "foot-dragging". If Myanmar leader Than Shwe had some self-respect left in him, he would do his duties without the UN, the ASEAN and the world having to urge, plead and push him to help save the lives of his fellow Myanmars.

Twenty days after the cyclone Nagis ,which claimed more than 133,000 lives and made 2.5 million homless and hungry, Myanmar junta is still bargaining with the UN & the rest of the world, restricting international aid from reaching the victims. IF THERE IS ANY PARTY POLOTICIZING THIS MASSIVE HUMAN TRAGEDY, UNDENIABLY ,IT IS THE JUNTA IN MYANMAR. Not doing enough is not the answer here. It is merely "Crime against Humanity", said French minister.
