    The responsibility of inspecting Iran and insuring compliance with the NPT and International law lies in the hands of the IAEA. Even a jesture by Israel will cause the US to continue its attack on Iran. If IAEA states Iran is complying with the NPT, the US still will not be satisfied, yet it was the US who supported Iraq's invasion into Iran. Why hasn't the US admitted Israel has nuclear weapons?

    this site must have been double-secret if a public website like globalsecurity.org knew about it in 2005. -Then it became "secret", so secret in fact that Iran had to proclaim it. Now it is "sweet secret"

    U.N. inspectors entered a once-secret uranium enrichment facility

    With this kind of wording, it seems AP is once again intentionally making it look like Iran is trying to hide something. In fact, it was not yet a functional enrichment facility and they had no reason to inform anyone about it at this stage of construction. And there was no legitimate reason for the three stooges (Obama, Brown, and Sarkozy) to appear shocked and panicked when they gave their press conference.

    Adamwesti,

    I agree that it should be up to the IAEA to conclude whether Iran is complying, and I agree that the US and Israel will disregard the IAEA's decision (because the have other motives).

    I recently came across UNSC resolution 487:

    ...Fully aware of the fact that Iraq has been a party to the Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons since it came into force in 1970, that in accordance with that Treaty Iraq has accepted IAEA safeguards on all its nuclear activities, and that the Agency has testified that these safeguards have been satisfactorily applied to date,

    Noting furthermore that Israel has not adhered to the non-proliferation Treaty,

    Deeply concerned about the danger to international peace and security created by the premeditated Israeli air attack on Iraqi nuclear installations on 7 June 1981, which could at any time explode the situation in the area, with grave consequences for the vital interests of all States,...

    1. Strongly condemns the military attack by Israel in clear violation of the Charter of the United Nations and the norms of international conduct;
    2. Calls upon Israel to refrain in the future from any such acts or threats thereof;
    3. Further considers that the said attack constitutes a serious threat to the entire IAEA safeguards regime which is the foundation of the non-proliferation Treaty;
    4. Fully recognises the inalienable sovereign right of Iraq, and all other States, especially the developing countries, to establish programmes of technological and nuclear development to develop their economy and industry for peaceful purposes in accordance with their present and future needs and consistent with the internationally accepted objectives of preventing nuclear-weapons proliferation;
    5. Calls upon Israel urgently to place its nuclear facilities under IAEA safeguards;
    6. Considers that Iraq is entitled to appropriate redress for the destruction it has suffered, responsibility for which has been acknowledged by Israel;

    Helter_Skelter

    Iranian officials hailed the visit as an example that their nuclear program was open to international scrutiny.

    They get caught building a secret nuclear enrichment facility buried in the side of a mountain, and now they want to be praised for their openness to international scrutiny. You gotta give it to those Iranian Mullahs, they've certainly got chutzpah.

    sabi: Deeply concerned about the danger to international peace and security created by the premeditated Israeli air attack on Iraqi nuclear installations on 7 June 1981,

    Israel did the world a favor when it took out Iraq's Osirak nuclear facility in 1981. Hopefully they'll do the same to Iran.

    Helter, I guess you missed the part of the UNSC resolution that stated:"the fact that Iraq has been a party to the Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons since it came into force in 1970, that in accordance with that Treaty Iraq has accepted IAEA safeguards on all its nuclear activities, and that the Agency has testified that these safeguards have been satisfactorily applied to date"

    And because Israel continues to ignore the resolution's call to "urgently place its nuclear facilities under IAEA safeguards" the only nuclear facility that is deserving to be destroyed is the Israeli one.;

    Noting furthermore that Israel has not adhered to the non-proliferation Treaty,

    They get caught building a secret nuclear enrichment facility

    It was not a facility, it was not finished yet. And it was not secret, they had no reason or obligation to disclose it to anyone at this stage.

    Isn't Iran obligated to inform the IAEA of their plans to build a nuclear enrichment facility BEFORE construction begins?

    No! They must inform them a certain time (18 months?) before radioactive material enters the facility. My understanding is that they informed them even further in advance of that.

    Regardless of the faked expressions of shock and concern from Obama, Brown, and Sarkozy, and their mouth pieces on the MSM. Iran did nothing wrong.
