good on her.Her last performances brough tears to my eyes.It is nice to see some happy news on the net for a change.

For the life of me I can't understand the fuss over this woman. She seems nice enough, but really, how many thousands of mannish-looking women out there have a nice singing voice? Are people that desperate for a feel-good story these days?

You can´t separate the fuss over this woman from her appearance. A glamour chick with a good voice is nothing new, we see that every day. But when she marched into the talent show, looking like this, and everyone laughed at her, and then she started singing and floored everybody, you had the sensation. It is the underdog phenomenon. There is nothing surprising there.

Good for her that she does not try to turn into a glamour chick; that would be ridiculous. On the other hand, I am not sure how long she can keep up the underdog image when the money comes rolling in.

Ok. She's ugly. We get that. But her voice is nothing that 10000 other professional singers can't mimic. Doesn't write any new material. People should get excited about artists that actually create something.

Ok, what I meant to say was there are 10000 other singers who can match her generic voice all day long. As for the supposed 59 million hits on Youtube (Ill have to take your word on that) let me remind you there is also a video of a monkey who farts on his finger and falls off a tree that recieved just as much fame. My point is, hers is nothing but a freak-show.

good grief, where does all this hatred come from, about nothing more than a plain-looking middle-aged woman who happens to sing well.

Why all these sour grapes? Got no applause in your karaoke bar lately, or what?

no sour grapes at all, WilliB. I just dont understand why so many housewives and soccer moms have lost all composure over a karaoke singer. Like Robbie Williams, it must be a British thing that the rest of the world will never understand...

lot of hoo haa over a plain Jane who can sing? Fact is that the whole "Idol", "Got Talent" phenomenon is pretty frubbish anyway. Mostly set up to make saps look sappier and to end up making some pretty uninspiring "artist" famous (Will Gaylord et al who won it before).
