But the Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Beijing said they respect the way Myanmar chooses it's own way to develop. Funny, isn't it?

Roomtemp took the words right out of my mouth! I am sure China does not gave a hoot about the human rights violations in it's own country let alone in a 3rd world banana republic with plenty of oil, so as long as the regime in Burma, oops, Myanmar gets China what they need, both of these goons will be happy, while the regular guy in Myanmar lives with out freedom and under the tyranny of that country.

I'd say it's rather sad, actually, but I think we're on the same page.

Even more sad is that none of this will matter; the Junta will keep on doing what they are doing, so long as it keeps the ruling elite rich and feeling powerful.

But, Myanmar is not a democracy. It is a military junta lead by the military. Sadly, I fear we will see some foreign military intervention (again) in Myanmar/Burma in the not too distant future.

No oil there, so unlikely. Doing it for actual humanitarian reasons is not part of why most invasions take place.

I have to agree that the people of Burma are being ill treated by the junta. Of couse as said junta has taken lessons from NK and China I don't expect much better. The more China continues to support ugly regimes like Mugabe, lil Kim and the Burmese junta the more respect I lose for them. So glad I don't work in China any longer. I'd probably be arrested for typing this!

It just proves again that Freedom and Democracy is never cheap and never free; either you pay for it or somebody else has to pay for it,or both.
