Army Pfc. Bradley Manning, who is under suspicion of having provided the classified military documents to WikiLeaks.
Should be hung.

Okinawamike: "Should be hung."
Well, first it has to be proven, and even then we need to see what's on the documents. Let's say he releases a bunch that CLEARLY state they would make a justification for invading Iraq based on manipulation of the media into thinking there were WMDs, and that there was no link to AQ but they would say there was, etc. Should he still be hung then? These documents, I suspect, will make a lot of people look bad on the American side. If something is being hidden simply because they lied to everyone, it should come out.

Smith:
Do you think people with a secret or top secret clearance should be allowed to “leak” documents of any kind? He was in a position of security and if he used a government computer or any kind of thumb drive to download or upload these documents, he violated regulations.
I think the words like espionage; traitor and dumbass should be in the description of this individual.

Must bre proven, yes. But doesn't matter what's on them, they were classified.
Anyway, so what.

The USA now reportedly has approx 854,000 people with top-secret security clearance, and more with merely "secret" security clearance.
Whatever you think about the leaks, those numbers are clearly nuts and hugely increase the chances of this kind of thing happening. Just asking for trouble.

So you'd be OK if an American stole Canadian military documents then published them on the internet? Because...ya know....there's always a chance someone lied and we have to make sure...

GJDailleult, yes the numbers increase the chance that this will happen. But the real crux is, do you really think there is that much information that needs to be kept from the public? Even some things from WWII is being kept secret. Call me a faithless person, but trust the government, I do not.
Some of you want to assume he is a villian until proven otherwise. I am going to assume he is a hero until proven otherwise. The last big leak turned up stuff with no good reason to keep to secret, except to sugar coat the wars. The rest did not harm as far as I heard.
The day the U.S. gov keeps the number of secrets to a minimum is the day I have an ounce of faith that they actually have valid reasons for doing so. Frankly, I think some are upset because the cover-ups threaten to slow the flow of fools to plug into military uniforms in their stead.

This is like saying it was illegal to break into a burning house to drag people out to safety! Breaking and entering! You must be quite the disciplinarian. Sheesh.

It's too early. TPO. If even one person dies as a result of the leaks, those who leaked may have done some good, perhaps, but they are guilty of murder.

Do you think the witholding of information can't have gotten anyone killed? If one dead soldier would not have signed up had he known the whole truth, then someone is guilty of murder!
