I'm totally against protectionism. But you won't catch me putting my life on Chinese tires. Not when good US, European, Japanee, even SKorean brands are available.

No serious consequences since both major trading parters would like to see wheels of economy rolling.

US will gain in future with China. Protectionism can be there, but should be removed at right time in US.

Globalism of exports and imports is happening all over world,it started via the USA.

Bush administration gave full support to free trade and China/India rise, when China's stocks hit all time highs 6000 pts and India hit all time highs of 21,000 pts.

The rise of dynamic US and dynamic US exports, is coming in future.

To me protectionism or globalisation at present is something like a monster. It is not a chicken nor a tiger nor a donkey... It doesn't look like anything sane or fair. Borders still exist in every country , and each country has its own government. Free trade, but some sectors in every country are protected but other sectors are openned for foreign competition . Hence some people, with no foreign competion, will make tons of money but some people, with foreign competition ,will make very little.

Protectionism should only be used in developing industries that can stand on their own after a few years, or as retaliatory strategy against protectionism abroad.

The blanket Buy USA provisions are anti-competitive and result in an inneficient use of money, monopolies and higher prices.

I wouldnt be surprised if China files a billion dollar case with WTO and wins.
