I just left Iraq after four years supporting the troops. Don't let all those brave young men and women have died for nothing. We need to leave a stable government there so we never have to go back. We are almost there, a little more time.

Glad to hear it. It'll be even better when they are brought home and there are NONE.

    techall,

The only way the current Iraqi government is going to be stable is if we remain there.

While its wonderful news that our soldier's deaths are down, I am a lot more concerned about the sum violence in Iraq. Glad to see that is also down. While I am hopeful that this is the end of the ride, I predict this roller coaster will continue to rise and plummet as it has for the last 5 years.

Although it is good to know that deaths are down, I have never really liked this fascination with body counts - theirs and ours. If the US wants to remain in the region, casualties come with the deal. If it wants to get out of Iraq, there are consequences to that too. Lets just hope that the next President of the US makes a better fist of it than Curious George.

techall - "Don't let all those brave young men and women have died for nothing."

But unfortunately they died for nothing. Or should I say they died for unforgivable lies. Don't forget that hundred thousands of innocent Iraqis died for nothing as well...

Good news but at the sake of a tanking US-led global economy?

    Was it worth it?

    I don't think so.

I wouldn't say they died for nothing but then neither did you in the long run. I would say the soldiers deaths were not justified. I would say that they died for unforgivable lies. The bible that Bush clings to says "Thou shalt not bear false witness." Bush bore false witness. He proclaimed something that he did not know was true. It was his job to know beyond any doubt that the reason he was sending U.S. troops into harms way was in fact true. We had spy planes flying over Iraq at the time and not just the ones from great heights. We had AWACs that could collect countless data to analyze every moment. We knew for a fact that America was not in eminent danger. We knew for a fact that Iraq posed no threat without an operating Air Force and we could have monitored the construction of silo sites that would have been necessary to deliver any weaponry. We were there on the ground during the first war and saw that no launch sites existed and we held a no-fly zone in which we monitored Iraq and would have known of any building of military apparatuses capable of launch.

Also FromEurope I refuse to forget the innocent Iraqis that have perished because of our mistake to go there in the first place and constant blunders after "We Won!" They were human beings, their lives had value just like ours. If I don't add this I will face accusations. I also believe that our soldiers lives have value but I should not have to say that. I am an American and I have never said our troops are bad people collectively. But how many times have we heard individuals on these threads say that what we did was heroic and meant to save the Iraqis. But they fail to mention the value of the many, many Iraqi lives lost. I also do not think it is wrong for Non-Americans to criticize our military or any thing else about America. So many NeoCons want to reserve autonomy for America only. In other words they have the right to say vile things about other countries.

Like I said it is good that there were few deaths. But I want to continue to hear the voices of protest until it is over. And I fear it will not be over in my lifetime. We have made a lot of Muslim enemies because we acted like egomaniacal cowboys.

Self criticism is a healthy thing and I think it happens a lot in the US. But your speech is being received by some people here who are extremely anti-American and aren't nearly as reasonable as you are.

So be careful of who is supporting your words. I think you speak from the position that you love America and you want to see her do better. But some people who cheer your post might not have the same interests in mind...and they're more than happy to use a post like yours for mental masturbation.

    goodDonkey,

I guess I would counsel you to consider wisely before you modify your speech on account of the uses other people might make of it.
